Private: Try Couchsurfing or Hospitality club

Try Couchsurfing or Hospitality club

What I appreciate as I am traveling more than to discover new areas, it is contact with people. And where can one have more trade than people themselves? No hotel can bring the warmth and sincerity of someone who opens his home. And it offsets the (sometimes) lack of comfort. This is what I discovered through these two site.

---oooOOOooo---

---oooOOOooo---

And this time again I have not been disappointed: a sofa bed in the middle of the living room enough for me to sleep. My hostess took me under her wings. So I received breakfast, an invitation to a restaurant, a drive ... And, unforgettable moment: the visit of modest wooden church of the 12th century World Heritage Site by UNESCO which appears nowhere in the guidebooks! Fabulous!

---oooOOOooo---

Fabuleux !!!

Goodbye Lenin: Great Hostel in Zakopane

It's a wonderful wonderful place, have fun!

I don't have any info on huts in the mountains, I stayed there for 5 weeks and did day trips around the various paths. There are a couple of hostels in town if you can't get accomodation in the mountains. I stayed at Goodbye Lenin, if you end up there say hi to Emil and Lucas for me! They're great hosts and the hostel is a comfortable chalet.

Various: Chalets

The alternative to staying in a hotel is to find a chalet to rent for your family/group. This has the advantage of feeling much more authentic and homely.

Malowana Skrzynia: cheap apartment right on Kropowki street

In August 2005 we were visiting Zakopane for 3 days and we were staying in a nice apertment on Kropowki Street.
Apartment was on second floor overlooking Kropowki with bedroom window overlooking quiet courtyard.
It was perfect location for us to visit in short time all main tourist attractions and fantastic restaurants.

Apartment was pretty big. Bedroom with 2 beds joined together, living room with sofa bed (sleeps 2), kithenette, bathroom, wc, large coridor. There was plenty of storage (closets and drawer chests). Apartment is furnished in nice Zakopane style with wooden furniture and is pretty clean and quiet.

apartment on Main Street (14, Krupowki)

luckily, my brother lives here -- I guess when he's not there he might be interested in renting it out.

What a location!

Schronisko w Morskim Oku: A stunning view for a good day

Another hostel in the mountains. A very good place to start trips although very touristy during a day. Easily accessible on foot or by cart from Polana Palenica (by bus from Zakopane)

Outstanding surroundings- great views! Especially in the evenings and early in the morning when one-day tourists are away.
3-, 5-, 6-bedded rooms. Ther's also budget accommodation in so called "old hostel"- dorms only.
Restaurant available.

Hostel in Dolina Pieciu Stawow Polskich: In the heart of the mountains

This mountain hut is located the highest in the Polish Tatry mountains (1671 m above the sea level),in Dolina Pieciu Stawow Polskich (5-Polish Lake - Valley) not easily accessible i.e. only on foot . A bit crowded in summer is a very good place to experience the mountains and to start your trips. Situated by the lake. Beautiful views.

Beautiful views but accommodation only for tough trekkers :-)) NO HOT WATER! No private rooms (only 4-,6-,10-bedded). Breakfasts, dinners- provided.Excellent apple pie straight from the oven.

Roztoka Mountain Hostel: Try unique atmosphere

If you want to experience real mountains, far away from the crowds, see real darkness, hear real silence in the evening, just spend a night(or more!) in Roztoka which is one of the oldest mountain hostels in the Tatra Mountains.

Great location and atmosphere, but you must be aware that there are no rooms with private bathrooms , rooms are 2-, 3-, 4- 5-bedded.
Food is provided, but it's rather not sophisticated. :-))

Private accommodation

Private accommodation quite distant from the city centre, what is good in my humble opinion, as you are far away from car fumes and crowds. New rooms are with bathrooms.

Some rooms on the first floor have a great view over the mountains, a host is a licensed mountain guide who can also organize trips to the mountains.

Halny

As soon as we got off the bus in Zakopane we were offered rooms by some local people who crowded around the bus. We declined, however, as we wanted somewhere quite central and the rooms on offer were a bit further out.

The first place we tried was Halny, not far from the bus station and opposite the tourist office. As they had free rooms at a reasonable price (72 Zl per person night) we decided to take it. We had a double room in the building opposite the main building. The room was fairly big and we had our own shower and bathroom, a TV, plenty of space, a balcony and good views of the High Tatras. Downstairs in our building there was a billiard room which came in handy over the next few days when it rained.

A buffet breakfast was also included in the price. The hotel was about 5 minutes walk from the town centre and overall we were pleased with our choice.

Pension Leluja: Pensionat Leluja - familiar and next to the slopes

The hotel is next to one long chairlift. Walking distance to the center of Zakopane is about 15min. They provide 2 bedrooms and studios. All the facilities are in excellent conditions. A huuuge breakfast buffet is in the price included. The only disadvantage of this pension is the rather far walking distance to the center. When it's raining or at night, the walk to the center is quite uncomfortable.

- unbeatable hospitality
- big breakfast buffet with various food
- near a small ski resort
- familiar atmosphere

In a wooden hut

If you want to stay in a wooden hut with real mountain people, you should look for a private guesthouse like we always do. It's more personal that a hotel, much cheaper and much nicer.

Rent a flat

When you arrive at the bus station, Polish locals with flats to rent may be waiting and will approach tourists -- this is probably the cheapest answer to accommodation in Zakopane.

I was fortunate to be travelling with a Polish friend and she negotiated a rate of 30zl per night per person (approx 7 or 8 Euros) -- the flat was just two minutes from the bus station and was ideal for our requirements.

Villa Borgosz: A little villa

Clean and tidy with decent breakfasts. It's very close to the Nosal ski slope and so it's very convenient if you're on a ski/snowboard holiday.

There are also lots of nice Restaurants nearby.

It's basic accommodation with no frills but it's very adequate and not at all grotty.

Close to everything.

Getting a Place to Stay

The moment you step off the bus at Zakopane Bus Station you'll be mobbed by a rag-tag group of old ladies trying to rent you a room. Just take your pick.

I reckon you should go with the one that speaks to you rather than one that holds up a bit of paper in front of your face with "do you need a room?" written in every language imaginable!

Great fun.... even if you're not staying in Zakopane
