Friendly, Inexpensive Guesthouse

We found this place online, but were a bit skeptical at what we would end up with. As it turned out, the guesthouse was just fine. The house was comfy and quiet (except for the "ferocious" guard dog... :). Our room was spacious, had private facilities, and had a balcony with a slightly obstructed view of the mountains. Breakfast is available, but at an extra cost from what the travel websites might quote. Still, for three nights including breakfast, we paid Zl 410.

Among the disadvantages: It's a fair distance from Zakopane town center in the "Pavdalovka" section of town up on the hill. (though frequent minibuses will whisk you from town to a 5-minute walking distance if needed for no more than Zl 3). The hotel accepts cash only, though you can guarantee your reservation with a credit card. The staff generally does not speak English, though they are quite eager to help and simple hand gestures will get you by. If all else fails, one daughter speaks quite good English, and they will fetch her if needed. Finally, this is a Pension, not a full-service hotel, so don't expect 24-hour service or business-class breakfast. (one reviewer on another site charactarized the breakfasts as "awful," but I thought they were just fine. Perhaps the reviewer was expecting freshly-squeezed orange juice and gourmet coffee.)
