I have stated the cost as being between 100 and 120 US Dollars per person but the rate seems to vary according to where you search for a price. We had several recomendations that it was cheaper to book through the internet, yet we found it was far cheaper to book through a high street travel agent (at least, in Britain, it was).

Unique Quality: After the war the hotel was soon renovated and opened in 1947. In 1948 the Hotel Bristol was nationalized. In 1952 it was taken over by the "Orbis" State tourist agency, and became a hotel exclusively for visitors from abroad. Much of the hotel was redecorated in the new socialist realism style.

By the Seventies, the Hotel Bristol had lost its edge over other Warsaw hotels. In November 1981, it was closed. In 1991 the hotel was completely renovated and refurnished. On the 17th of April, 1993 the Hotel Bristol was officially opened by Sir Dennis and Lady Thatcher.

In 1994, Forte Hotels bought the international luxury hotel chain "Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts". The Hotel Bristol was incorporated into Le Meridien's most exclusive brand and renamed "Le Royal MERIDIEN BRISTOL" in September 1998. Le Royal Meridien Bristol is the only Polish member of The Leading Hotels of the World

Directions: Right next to Radziwill Palace, used by the Prime Minister.

THE hotel for Warsaw Old Town area

by written on November 17, 2002

Le Meridien Bristol is, in my opinion, the best sited hotel for touring Warsaw. It is 5/7 minutes walk from the Old Town in one direction and 7/10 minutes walk from the main shopping street, Nowy Swiat, in the other. You can get to most of the historic parts of the city by walking from here but if you want to, there are buses that run from the front of the hotel accessing most areas.

Unique Quality: The Hotel Bristol was founded by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, the famous pianist, composer and also Prime Minister of Poland in 1919. The construction of the hotel started in April 1899 and welcomed it first visitors on 19/11/1901.

The hotel had eight floors, including a complete basement and four wings. Besides the bedrooms and suites there was also a restaurant, banquet room, ballroom, a room for private parties, cafe, shops, hairdresser, barber, photographer and a florist. The bedrooms were furnished in different styles: Gdansk Baroque, Louis XV and XVI, Chippendale, Louis Philippe. The hotel immediately became the best in Warsaw and was patronized by many famous people from the world of politics and music. After Poland regained independence in 1918, the manager of the hotel, Paderewski, became the Prime Minister. The first historical session of his Government took place in Le Royal Meridien Bristol.

In 1928 Tadeusz Jentys, Director of the hotel, sold his shares to the Bank Cukrownictwa (The Sugar Industry Bank), which became the majority shareholder.

During The Second World War many high ranking German officials stayed at Le Royal Meridien Bristol. In 1944 Hitler gave orders for the city of Warsaw to be destroyed but Le Royal Meridien Bristol by some stroke of luck was left standing and recognizable - an island in a sea of ruins.

Unique Quality: Want to feel yourself like a prince (or a star)? Rent the limousine of the hotel to the airport (the simbol of the hotel is a crown and it is painted on the doors)

A luxurious hotel often used by heads of foreign government during their stays within the city. It has undergone a major renovation in recent years.

Unique Quality: This one of Warsaw's most exclusive hotels. It is of a traditional old design and beats the huge tower block hotels hands down. Here you find quality ... but at a cost! the hotel is well located close to the Old Town

Directions: Located on the Royal Mile close to the Presedential Palace

Unique Quality: This is an outstanding hotel and one of the best in Poland. It is everything you expect from a 4/5* establishment. Marble everything, Piano playing in the bar, Exquisite bedrooms and service to match. Prices are comparable with 3* in other cities so we felt it was good value. They even have a limo to take you shopping in. If you require class and splendor this is the hotel.

Check the web page. We got a deal on a suite, $150 or so per night weekend special, stated price is around $450 or so.

Unique Quality: Very nice turn of the century hotel newly renovated. High standard.

Directions: Right next to the presidential palace, Belvedere. It is like staying next to the White House, wild. Walking distance to old town, 10 minutes.
