The TOP of Gdansk
by Pawtuxet
You are likely to see a stork, a unicorn, or a king at the top of the buildings in Gdansk. Be sure to keep a sharp eye. There is so much going on in such a small space, that you can easily miss some of the elements which combine to make an absolutely fascinating environment. The architecture reminded me very much of Amsterdam..and in fact, there is an influence of the Dutch here.
Years ago there was a great deal of wealth here in Gdansk, especially when it was one of the world's busiest shipping centers. . a major trade route. Hence, the businessmen built shrines to their success..which are preserved for us to enjoy today.
Kashubian nation
by Raimix
Kashubian is a nation, living in Polish region of Pomerania. They speak Kashubian language, it is Slavic, but Polish could hardly understand it, language has words from German dialects as well. Let say, word "Gdansk" they spell like "Gdunsk" and so on. It is possible to buy audio with Kashubian language in Gdansk.
We can assume, that about 53000 Kashubians live in Poland and use its language. There are some lectures of this language at Pomeranian schools. Then I visited Gdansk, there was festival of Kashubian nation.
It is said, that Kashubians and Polish don't like each other too much, possible because Kashubians are more "to German culture".
Acupuncture or... ?

Look at the head of this stone statue on my picture. Can you see many needles positioned there? Well, I am sure that it's not Chinese acupunture but either a kind of, unknown to me, technique of renovation, used by conservators of old stone figures or protection against birds (pigeons). I could see similar "needles" sticking out of old statues a few times in Gdansk, and I've never noticed them anywhere else before.
A nice view of the shipyard
by Bushman23
If you take a walk past the train station, heading away from the old town, once you've crossed the big bridge, head to the right, to the bridge over the railway tracks. During the day or night, this will afford you an excellent view of several of the huge cranes working in the dockyard.
Old Oliwa.
by Dagon
Oliwa was built and owned by monks. On the beggining there was only a monastery. They created willage in this place. After some time it started to grow. People living nearby came and settled here.
Also rich people from Gdansk noticed nice place on the north of their city. They also started to build their beautiful houses. To our times survived not many of them, but still some streets have got its charm.
You can find there also some other historical buoldings, like for example this church presented on the photo.
Very close to these buildings is big forest, where people can rest while for example walking.
