Channels and Amsterdam
by Raimix
I have heard some phrases before, that “if you don’t have possibility to visit Amsterdam, Gdansk is nice choose”. I think it is not just nice phrase, but true as well. The old part of city has numerable examples of Dutch architecture, including main city gates, Arsenal. Other thing, that is a basis to tell Gdansk is similar to Amsterdam, is channels of city (let say, Motlava Channel).
Polish people eat quite early! ;-)
by Carletto76
As my dear friend Landad taught me, it seems that people from Gdansk like to eat quite early at dinner... usually around 6pm!
So, if you plan to go out at dinner with someone from Gdansk, remember to go quite early: they cannot resist too much time without eating! ;-))
It's not easy for a southern man like me to get used to it, if I eat at 6 I'm hungry again at midnight, anyway it's good to respect foreign traditions and way of living... and there's always time for a midnight snack! ;-)
Gdansk glass cases
by matcrazy1
There are numerous glass cases with amber and siver jewelry put along the Royal Way and, even more, along Mariacka street. They have different shapes, some unique to Gdansk. For example there are glass cases in a shape of Gdansk burgher houses behind them, or in a shape of other old, famous Gdansk structures, or Gdansk street lamps.
Sail the Baltic
by Jase1177
If you are every afforded the opportunity to sail on the Baltic, do it. Sailing can be pretty much the same in many places but each has its own characteristic. The Baltic seemed to be calm (at least when we were on it) and tranquil with great views of the coast.
Church of St. Peter and Paul.
by Askla
Not much is left from the once so rich interior of the St. Peter and Paul church as it was almost completely burnt down during the World War II. Originally the church was built in the 14th century. There are, as often, diffe-
rent information on the year of building but I rely on the plaque on the church wall.
The church is situated in the Old Suburbs, Stare Przed-
miescie, south of the main tourist areas, in ul. Zabi Kruk, just a little east of the Franciscan Church and the National Museum. The closest tram stop is Zabi Kruk on lines 8 and 13 (the third stop from the main station), then head south ~250 metres.
