Travel Tips for Gdansk

You must enjoy the city's...

by pattyx

You must enjoy the city's atmosphere, it's not the most beautiful city in Poland (Krakow is) but it has a great charm and has a lot of great character. Just strolling around town will make you feel good! Also, the sea port is an interesting place to visit. On the beach you can even find an amber... if you're lucky. Walking on the long, old streets of the city lined with trees and staircases decorated with fancy metal handles. I can never forget the people of this city, they have the greatest sense of humor.

Hanseatic League

by Leipzig

Gdansk has been a member of the Hanseatic League, a mercantile league of medieval German towns. The origins date back to the year 1241 when Lübeck and Hamburg concluded a treaty of mutual protection.

Lions of Gdansk

by matcrazy1

There are a lot of stone lions put on facades of Gdansk houses and offices. Usually the two lions keep the coat of arms of Gdansk (a crown + two crosses). Hmm... to be honest these stone animals look a bit different than real lions, right? Look at thick and very long tails and strange, long hair on a head of the lions.

Walking along a beach

by matcrazy1

I have taken a short but very relaxing walk along a beach in Gdansk district of Jelitkowo. Althogh there were quite many folks doing the same at some parts of the beach I enjoyed the views over the sea, a fresh wind, a sound of the waves, watching others and soft sand under my feet. You have to wear something, nudity is forbidden on that beach. Topless is surely allowed although bot popular while walking.

Take a trip to Malbork

by Ben-UK

About 40 km southeast of Gdansk lies Malbork, home of the largest castle in the country. In 1230, the Teutonic Knights arrived and turned what was a fortress into the enormous castle you see today. Although partly damaged in WW2 (the eastern wing was shelled), restoration work was completed in the 1970's and in 1997 the castle was included in UNSECO's World Heritage list.

The train and bus stations are together about 1km from the castle. From Gdansk, there are frequent trains and buses and the journey takes less than an hour.
