Bus Timetable advice please

by citytrip

Hi, we are travelling to Katowice airport wkend 10th July we dont land till the early hours of saturday morning so decided to get the bus to Krakow and stay their the night as we thought it would be quicker to travel at that time of the night than in the morning. We will spend the day exploring Krakow then plan to return to katowice saturday night and stay over before flying back sunday evening. We would like to visit Auschwitz independently (not on a tour) and thought it would be easier to get to from Katowice but I am having difficulty finding bus time tables as I don't speak polish. Can anyone advise me what time I could catch a bus on the 12th July and how long the journey takes? We would probably aim to get a bus around 8am ish not sure what time we would need to head back probably around 4pm as we fly at 19:45. Any advice greatly appreciated. :-)

Come on.Move your body and get up earlier:
by train (PKP)Katowice-Oswiecim:
6.50-7.48
return
3.50-4.53(pm).
You have to walk a bit to the museum or use local public buses. It's not a big deal.
Mind you Auschwitz is a very different place from regular tourist attractions.

Alternatively go from Krakow but return to Katowice.

Travel Tips for Katowice

August 2000 I was working for...

by smithsgen

August 2000 I was working for a firm in Katowice. As the employer actually had problems finding enough work for me, I had a lot of time spare to discover the city and the surroundings.

In most travelguides Katowice is rarely mentoned by more than a couple of words, and honestly there aren't that many touristattractions in town. Still it's a really nice place to hang around. It's one of the few cities not to be bombed during the WWII, so the buildings are original. Furthermore there are no tourists there so you get a more true image of what the Poland of today is like, staying there.

I'll write more about Katowice when in mood for it. Might scan some of my photos too... Very pretty girls....Only Reykjavik match them.
Cheap, cheap beer.
Nice streetcafes.
Interesting people.

Nice wall paintings

In Katowice there are many scattered buildings, and also underways below the railway lines, so you will find quite a lot of murales paintings, and some of them are really nice, or at least curious, like this one! ;-)

Giszowiec is one of the quarters of Katowice. It is situated about 7 km from the city centre. Giszowiec is surrended by forests from three sides. About 50% of the area of the quarter is covered by forests. This make Giszowiec one of the most beautiful and green place in Katowice.

Tipical house in Giszowiec

by ZiOOlek

Typical houses in Giszowiec were small and designed for two families. Each family has its own doorway and the garden. Garden used to be always important and local people care about gardens neatly. Gardens were only for recreation. To cultivate, for example patatos, you had to get the permission form the local government. Most houses were designed by Georg and Emil Zillmann from Charlottenburg near Berlin.
