Great news for people of a certain age and those of us with dodgy knees, those damn steps at the East end of Fishermans beach are being replaced by an outdoors escalator, Soon you will be able to get off the at the "Tourist train".....(photo 1).... stop for Albufeira old town and not have to navigate those steps anymore........(photo 2) (did look a few weeks off completion when we were there last week 3/08)
a museum... for the rare rainy days
by call_me_rhia
In case you'll be in Albufeira on a rainy day, you could spend a few hours at the Archeological Museum. it's located in the old Town Hall building, opposite the bell tower. Its exhibits tell the history of the region from prehistoric, Roman, Islamic to the present day. In the same building you can also find the Historical Archive and Council Library (Arquivo Histórico e Biblioteca Municipal). Don't miss the manuscripts setion, ok?
Sant’Ana Church

This little church is my favourite of all the churches in Albufeira: it’s tiny but its decorations make it of outstanding beauty. The ceiling’s intricate pattern is really charming - and it seems that the idea of the cupola and surrounding pinnacles belong to popular architecture. I guess that there’s something of a Moorish influence, too, in the white-washed cupola. It was built in the 18th century and it is located in the Largo Jacinto d’Ayet square.
