I went to Albufeira last month, specifically in the Orada appartment. Orada is a four star aparthotel nearby the marine of albufeira. The appartment was very luxary. A very nice swimmingpool and very nice rooms, included washingmachine, dishwasher, and microwave. I have never seen such rooms before.
Albufeira has a firm place in history, In Roman times it was know as Baltum and later changed by the Moors to Al-Buhera which translates as 'Castle on the Sea'. For 5 full centuries Al-Buhera, alongside Faro, was a hotspot for trade under the Arabs, particularly with North Africa. Wander around the old town in Albufeira, and make the link between the narrow streets here and Moorish influence.
Within the old town area of Albufeira look for the partial old remains of city walls around the main clock tower which once encased the town - the wall was all but destroyed by the 1755 earthquake. Other historic buildings in Albufeira include mostly churches and religious buildings. The main church dates from the 18th century with a statude of Nossa Senhora da Orada (Our Lady of Supplication?!) which dates further back from the 15th century. Continuing on the Albufeira church trail others on the list include the again 18th century Church of Sao Sebastiao with it's particularly interesting Manueline styled side door
Does anyone know anything about the Da Orada apartments, we have booked to go soon but cant locate any pictures/ information and directions of them. We know they are located by the marina. Is this far from the main areas of albuferia??

Not sure if Orada Apartments are the ones inside the Marina. I'll try to find it...
But if they are close to the marina you have the Marina Bus to get you to the city center, i think is about 2-3 km.
The Marina area is new, but they have some bars and Restaurants open and the place is very calm. I like Marina zone, but it is a litle far from city.
I almost booked these apartments but thought they were a bit further away than I usually like to be. The marina is on the opposite side of the old town from praia d'oura and the nightlife we usually frequent so it would have meant a taxi ride for us but it is within walking distance to the old town. The only pictures I found were on the flyglobespan website and they looked fabulous. I am going to go and have a look with a view to maybe booking there in the future - when do you go - we are back on 4th july - could post you some news then.

i went to the marina several times last summer, our boat was there. I think that it is a very nice place but it doesn't show Albufeira as it is...
