    So here we are in a private villa (it was apparently owned by a german doctor who let it during the summer months).

    As I said we had only booked a studio apartment but having none available the holiday company put us in this 3 bed/bathroom villa, with its own pool, kitchen, dining room, patio, barbeque and the maid lived in a little cottage adjacent to the villa.

    As with all late bookings sometimes it can work in your favour where you are put and sometimes people are not so lucky. We on this occasion were very lucky.

    Stunning views across to the Atlantic Ocean.

    Although located on the hill, somehow far away from the crazyness of Albufeira's old town, Mar a Vista was a good choice in terms of accommodation :)

    The walk from the beach to the hotel proved to be a welcome energy burner after the delicious meals and a good wake up exercise after the famous Sangria.

    Very friendly staff!
    Great view of the city, escpecially from the top floor where the breakfast room is located.

    The rooms are good all with varanda some have garden view.
    The Hotel have all kind of services including bar, restaurant swinning poll 1 indoor another outdoor, garden, games room, etc.

    It have a great indoor pool,.

    This 1962 hotel predates anything on the strip and is near the Old Town & Jardim Square, towards the Marina/ 'Algarve Shopping' Centre direction
    Cable TV with English language news, ensuite rooms, a bright and spacious self serve breakfast area.
    Great views from the rooftop restaurant

    The pool was closed off one day during our stay in September 2002 - they were shooting a Portugese horror film here!

    They use to have some activities for children in afternoons but this year the program (name that my kids use to the activities) was really great from 10 am to midnight they had that program working with all kinds of plays, paintings, water games etc, even with an Hotel tour. No extra charge.
    My kids wanted to stay in the hotel a lot just to go to all of those great activities… and we could rest a little in the Hotel room.

    The Rosamar 1and 2 are two very pleasant aparthotel situated just 100 mtrs. form the beautiful sandy beach of Armacao de Pera.

    My first trip to Algarve took me to the Albufeira jardim 1 hotel , on a hill above the resort. A large complex with a good size roof top pool.

    My second trip to Albufeira and I and 6 friends booked 2 rooms at Cerro Mar, once again on a hill above the resort.

    I don't have any experiences on other hotels in this city. Therefore, I cannot really compare this hotels to any other. I just mention here my experiences with this hotel.

    Pros: Good location in the city centre. Reception open 24 hours a day. Reception very friendly. Clean rooms with balkon.

    Cons: Breakfast rather slim, our room had a safe but no key in it and the air condition was broken but they got it fixed. Our room ran out of toilet paper all the time. It seemed that they were lacking of it.

    • Good rooms - very clean - towels changed twice a week and bedding once a week
    Too small for 4 adults to share but may be ok for 4 if you have young children (though make sure you get ground floor room in that case)

    Fairly well appointed kitchenette - though no toaster or oven - would have loved a dishwasher!

    Only one fault and that is paper thin walls - we had a noisy family next door who could not close a door without slamming it or have a converstaion without shouting, and that meant a few sleep deprived nights. Also stone floors in corridors meant lots of clattering when people came or went - so not a place to stay if you want total peace and quiet

    Lovely little gardens surrounding each block of apartments
    Reasonable sized pool, though not big enough for the needs of the height of summer or if lots of children (you would get very splashed if trying to relax by the side)

    Free Shuttle bus going to and from Albufeira town twice a day - though the last bus comes back at 15:40, so not good if you want a late night out

    very close to new up market resort being built and although a lot of buidling going on, it is not obtrusive and will lift the area in due course
