Porto
by Canadienne about Hotel Boa Vista
Rather than drive into Portugal (warning! warning!), we picked a hotel outside the city. The Hotel Boa Vista was down the coast ~ a taxi ride into the city cost only 5 euros. It had a super restaurant (garlic shrimp) and wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean. My room was 45 Euros.
Italian worth seeking out
by Paisleypaul about Amici's
Amici's is very slightly West past the Old Town, not far from the Dolphin roundabout and very near Hotel Boa Vista and Hotel Gale. Bright and clean, a welcome diversion from some of the rather formulaic eateries nearer the strip. Great local and European wines, recommended is any fish dish especially seafood and pasta. In common with so many Italian restaurants outwith Italy, pasta tends to be a main course rather than 'primi'.

Hi,
Has anyone stayed at the the Boa Vista Hotel at Rua Samora Barros ? Is it clean? Is there any decent lively music bars (am over 50) but young at heart and is there local transportation nearby. Thanks for your assistance. Phil

Stayed at the Boa Vista 5 years ago, very clean rooms and breakfast room. Think the Stones stayed there when it was new! (1962). Albuferia nightlife seems split between the under and over 25s, so you do well to avoid the 'strip' and stay in the old town, where the nightlife is more pub and band than club and DJ orientated, centred on Jardim Square.
There was a great live outdoor music venue down the hill and a right turn about 75 metres - kind of through the supermarket - no idea of the name now but you will find it.

I stayed next door at the Rocamar and found the Boa Vista very nice, better than the Rocamar.

Hi Phil,
We haven't stayed at the Boa Vista but I can tell you about its location, which is up high on the headland to the west of the bay of Albufeira. The views over the town and bay are magnificent. The hotel had a big makeover a year or so ago which took many months! The walk down to the Old Town is quite steep in places. We have an apartment quite close to the Boa Vista and it takes us about 8 minutes to walk down into the Old Town, where you will find lots of lively music bars and excellent restaurants in a lovely setting. We find the walk back up only takes 8 minutes too (strange but true!) but taxis only cost about 4 Euros and are plentiful except in the high season.
Hope this helps!
