The room's were not exactly 4 stars but the sourrounding areas were what I call "as seen on post cards". About 20 mins walk away from the nearest town Albufeira. The breakfast was the same through out my stay and got tired of the eggs and bacon, not implying there was no alternative. Just that, what do you do when you have breakfast already paid for.
I fell in love with the beauty, the people, their language, the smell and the taste of great Portugal!
The first trip was a strong incentive for the next one!

Amazing game of lights and shadows projected by the majesty of the rocks on the surface of sand and water!

I am staying at the Hotel Maritim in October and am trying unsuccessfully to find a map that shows both Sao Rafael and the old town on one map so I can walk from the hotel to the old town and back (30 minutes??).
Can anyone point me to a link that would show this please.

Hi, we stayed near Albufeira in June (you can have a look on my Algarve-pages) When we tried to walk from the new town to the old town we got lost. There is a big distance (even bigger without a map;-)). We asked in some hotel for a taxi and there we also got a map. Easiest thing is to ask in your hotel for the map. I'm sure they will have one.Regards, Michael

It's the Maporama website. I've put the blue circle target where the Hotel Maritim is situated, and if you scroll across to the right you'll see the Old Town just to the east of the green area (you'll see lots of blue lines which are alleyways and small streets as well as the larger white roads). This map is a bit wrong in that if you go up the road towards the north from your hotel it shows a blue line before you turn right on the road towards the Marina - it's actually all a proper road.
If you want to buy a map as soon as you arrive, go to the Bookshop near Arrivals in the airport. I can recommend the ForWays maps (orange covers) - "Albufeira - City and Resort Map" and "Algarve - Faro, Albufeira e Portimao".
Hi all, we are planning to stay at a villa in the Sao Rafael area, about 2 miles west of Albufeira and would like any info on the Restaurants in the area. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am staying in Sao Rafael for two weeks holiday in August. Could someone please post a few words about the area, eating out, days out etc. Or links to websites that may be of use. I will have a car for the duration of the holiday.

SºRafael is a beach near Albufeira, is a good place to stay and having a car you can go everywhere around, like aquapark zoomarine etc. i've some info on mine albufeira page
The new Albufeira Marina is just a few minutes walk away from S. Rafael. There you will find many restaurants with plenty of events going on especially during the summer. São Rafael is close to many other beaches like Coelha and Galé with very good beach bars and restaurants. I strongly recommend you try local dishes such as "cataplana" (fish stew cooked in a pan with two pan-shaped halves hinged together). The fresh fish and shellfish are also goo options whichever way they are cooked.
Zoomarine has been mentioned already - It is a marine themed , and at the moment they have a show with syncronised russian swimmers and dolphins which is worth while seeing.
