Noise

by TripAdvisor Member spark15

Just got back from THE CHORO MAR . Stayed for one week. overall not bad for what we payed. I would rate it 2 stars not 3 . Did nt look as good as the web picture. The staff were friendly and there was a free bus service by the choro mar which took you to the strip or a 15 mins walk or the one to the old town, A 40 mins walk . You might not get much sleep as karaoke starts at 11.00 TIL 02.00 and people going past your windows most of the night .You need the window open as no air con in room. For a cheap holiday and a sing song with a good drink you ll be all right.

noise too much

by TripAdvisor Member lesmac24

Just returned from the choro mar.
Overall the hotel is good, however there was a few problems.
To start, when we arrived the reception staff were very friendly, the appartement and complex is very clean, very spacious but basic. The bar area was clean and very friendly, it appeared that a lot oft the other quests have been there before, which is a recommendation in itself.
Also there a five blocks of appartments, some residential some owned by the choro mar, but all with their own swimming pools. Therefore the pools can be very quiet.
The only couple of problems were firstly the location. It is about 15 min walk to the strip, however the hotel will book you a taxi and it costs around 4 euro's (If you want to go to the old town, which we thought was better than the strip) it is about 5 euro's. Also the surrounding area's around the hotel, look like they need a bit of work. Secondly was the noise from the other appartments. You can here the noise from everyone in surrounding appartments which can get very frustrating at 4am.
To conclude we don't think we would stay again because of the noise, however if this does't put you off then definatly go.

Great Place but bring your ear plugs - not just at night!!

by TripAdvisor Member ocalllo

My husband and I are just back from 4 nights in Choro Mar Apts over Easter. I booked the apartments from the great reviews it received and I totally agree. The apartments are huge and clean and the staff all extremely friendly and we even got a double bed and not 2 singles pushed together.
Our flight was delayed going out so we arrived just as the reception was closing, not a word of complaint and they were happy to give us all the info eventho we were late.
The food in the bar is really good for breakfasts and snacks. We didn’t hang out around Choro Mar but got a taxi each night into the old town €4 - €5 o/w. Definitely the best place in The Algarve we’d been to.
We had a great stay but my only big complaint was the noise in the apartment, it was dreadful and really stopped us from relaxing inside the apartment during the day. We were on the 3rd floor (4 in total) and the noise from the surrounding apartments was unbearable. It was just ordinary living noise but because of the building materials every whisper sounded like it was in your room with you and constantly it sounded like someone was dragging furniture across the floor. We were kept awake all night by the noise of someone snoring somewhere, it was so loud they might as well have been in our bedroom. We could even hear people using the loo!
We did not let this ruin our great holiday but I would strongly recommend requesting the 4th floor, bring some ear plugs and don’t expect to have an afternoon nap.

very friendly staff

by TripAdvisor Member stlukeshospice

My husband, myself and my two teenage girls only spent 24 hours at the choro mar. I had made a mistake in my flights so needed accommodation for one night until we could get into our apartment elsewhere on the Algarve. I was looking for something cheap and cheerful as it was an added expense and we weren't planning to be there for our 'real holiday'. I didn't have high expectations. However we had a nice 24 hours. The receptionist was really helpful as we arrived very early and rushed to get our apartment ready. We were in the new block and our apartment was spotless and very spacious. The whole area was secured by a gate which we were given a key for. The pool area around the main building is quite cramped so you would want to get on with your neighbours !! The pictures certainly were taken with a wide angle lens. However the pool in the block we were in was very spacious. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The area around the Chro mar was nothing special but more than fine and I think people who found it noisy would need to vist the main part of Albufeira to understand what noisy really could mean. It is a long way out from the main part but that isn't all bad although is you want a beach holiday then you will have to

What I would say is 'look at the price' and if you keep that in mind you wont be disappointed. I've paid much more to stay in much less appealing places.

Fun Fun Fun

by TripAdvisor Member Kidsarebackintown

Just returned from the Choro Mar Apartments and as a family we have very different opinions. My husband and myself thought the accommodation was a little uncomfortable and very noisy if you do not want a lively holiday don't come here. (you will not get to sleep before 2.00am) My children of 11, 13 and 15 had a fab time, the essence of fun was in abundance for them, they are driving us mad to return next year as that met some lovely friends. Many other holiday makers have returned year after year, this speaks volumes. The staff were very helpful and food was lovely and inexpensive. Kareoke everynight got a bit much but after a 15 min walk to the strip for dinner it was nice to have the option of some entertainment as many apartments in albufeira don't even have this, but a variation of evening entertainment would have made it the perfect base. The pool area was a great source of entertainment in the afternoon, but is quite a cramped area, if you would prefer some space and some peace and quiet with the option of all the noisy facilities nearby, ask to be put in one of the other buildings. Be aware of ear problems and bring antibiotic drops as this was a big problem here, but don't let it put you off. Restaurants to visit that I can recomend are the American Diner, great steaks and ribs, 10-15 min walk, sizzling stone get a taxi from reception 4 euro's, The Ancora, lovely kebabs. Chinese on the the main strip is very nice. Matts Bar good fun for kids with the Bucking Bronco and great cocktails you will only need 2 before you fall over and their only 5 euro's each Happy Hour. Have fun

Nice Apartments - Shame about the Location

by TripAdvisor Member glesgagal69

The apartments were a very good size and clean, the maids came in a few times a week to sweep the floors and make beds etc ... the pools were also very nice indeed and there was never any problem getting sunbeds. The apartments are located along 3 streets with one main block which contains the reception, bar, mini-market and main pool ... the noise in these apartments is quite bad especially in the evening as it is always busy and there is usually karaoke and acts on at night until 2am ... the reception opens at 9am and closes at 11pm ... the other apartments are in blocks in the two streets leading off from the main block ... and in these blocks are privately owned apartments too ... each block has its own pool (5 in total) and some of the people in the private apartments seem to get annoyed at the choromar people taking the beds around the pools or making a noise (strange) !!!

It is a very long walk (15-20mins) to the strip ... and almost impossible to walk to the old town especially if you have children -I tried to walk to Oura beach one day and it took me an hour - not fun in the 40 degree heat - taxis and the hotel bus are the best option ... taxis are extremely difficult to come across in this resort so be careful and book them if you can (and wear a seatbelt !!!)

The resort itself is very nice and if you are looking for a nice place to eat you must try The Almond Tree - the perfect place for either families or a romantic meal ... the food is completely amazing and so is the price ... they have lime trees in the garden along with grape vines and the service is fantastic ... they have lots of toys for children to play with the and the staff couldnt do more for you ... it is a bit tucked away just off the strip but worth finding and you wouldnt regret it ... keep your eyes open for it ...

overall quite good

by TripAdvisor Member cassieLiverpool

apartment was big and clean.staff were all very helpful.we went with two 8 year olds and would definetly recomend a trip to zoomarine! it was great, cheap to get in and everything was free inside.our children swam with dolphins, expensive ,but worth it !
apartment was quite far from beach ,but there was a frequent mini bus.resort was so-so.only major problem was noise, dont think there was any sound proofing ,you could hear every word your neighbours were saying!sound seemed to echo round the building.
would i go again-no,o.k for a cheap break but the old town seemed better.

A little dissapointed.

by TripAdvisor Member Mark&Kaz

I have just returned from 1 week stay at the Charo-mar & I was dissapointed in the accomodation after reading reviews. It was ok for a cheap place to stay but I did expect more. I took my two children (ages 10 & 14) & there was very little for them to do, in the games room there was very little & what there was didn't work. The pool seems smaller than in the photo's & when people jumped in it soaked the diners out side the bar area. There is crazy golf that looks like it hasn't been used in many years. I like to walk but it was quite far to beach (1/2 hour to nearest beach) there is a free bus but this takes you to a beach where the sunbeds cost 15 euros for a pair with parasol but the next beach along was only 10 euros with a free drink & a lot better. My biggest complaint was as it was cheap there were alot of larger louts sitting outside the bar most days swearing quite loud with no consideration for children. It took us about an hour to walk to the old town. As I said it is ok if you want something cheap but I wouln't stop there again, I would stop as near to the old town as possible as it was very nice.

Great Place shame about the apartment

by TripAdvisor Member goomer

Me and my girlfriend have just got back from staying at these apartments and I can definately say we would never go here again. Upon our arrival we were found that the side in the kitchen was filthy and there was dirt all over the sofa. With this being a self catering holiday I did not even dare cook in the kitchen. We had to push the beds together and found under the bed was a health hazard. We did complain to the reception and they sent someone up and they hardly did anything about it. I found some of the staff very unhelpful and at times very rude. 3-4 nights out of 7 we had cockroaches in the room on the kitchen side and these were cockroaches that were the size of small dogs. If you are going to the aquashow waterpark wait on the same side as the bus stop and not the same side as sil choro. The lady on reception told us the wrong place to wait and when we had to get a taxi she said she will pay it but you could see she was very reluctant to do this even though she told us the wrong place to wait. Fred the driver of the mini bus and his wife were very nice and helpful. When you go out at night I would go to the old town and eat at the restaurant called Bank the food is excellent and there is a lot more to do here than at the strip which is more like a Blackpool in the sun. Although the apartment was dated and dirty I would reccomend this resort just another place to sleep.

Not Great!

by TripAdvisor Member Fergachino

Lovely area in general but appartments had a few problems. In the morning there was a strange smell (sewerage like) and the beds were very uncomfortable and looked ancient(they had been fixed a few times).....were they prob should have been replaced. Service at the bar was atrocious.......15 min wait for a drink and up to an hour for a hamburger. Almost impossible to get a taxi to the town in the evenings from the hotel....so be prepared for a 15-20 min walk. All in all.....location wise this is a nice place to stay, but the appartments and the service end needs a lot of work.

Weather question

by Redaberdeengirl

Hi there,

We are going to Albufeira in March next year (early March), what kind of weather should we expect?

Re: Weather question

by cachaseiro

march is very hard to predivt in the algarve.

it might be very sunny, but rain is quite possible too.

espect it to be windy aswell, especially in the afternoon.

the good thing about march is that there are very few tourists that time of year.

Re: Weather question

by Torgut

And if it's not rainy it's gonna be cold. Nothing bellow zero, but cold.

Re: Weather question

by Redaberdeengirl

Oh really? Gutted.

How cold is cold though? Bearing in mind i'm from Aberdeen and its always cold here - i mean 20 degrees Celcious is a scorcher up here! x

Re: Weather question

by cachaseiro

10-15 degrees celcius is common in march.

Re: Weather question

by Redaberdeengirl

Thanks guys

Re: Weather question

by Propermark

Algarve is the right choice for summer holidays but not March! I stayed there this summer and it's cool but sometimes the wind is strong and cold even in summer nights :))

ciao!
