Parish-Church
by johnsakura
This church is located on the Rua da Igreja Nova and dates back to the 18th century (1782). Blessed on July 15th 1800 by the Bishop of the Algarve, Dom Francisco Gomes de Avelar, this edifice substituted the former Parish-Church which collapsed during the earthquake of 1755.
The church is Neo-classical in style, built with only one nave. It has 4 lateral chapels, the baptismal chapel, the choir, two pulpits and two lateral rooms. These rooms are dedicated to the Holy Souls of the Bishop S.Luís, Our Lady of Fátima and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
A magnificent painting is to be noted by the artist Samora Barros of Albufeira which decorates the church’s high altar and serves as a background for the image of Our Lady of the Conception, patron saint of Albufeira.

Albufeira hotel 2km out of town - perfect holiday
by Josie1610
Our hotel was 2km outside of Albufeira and that was ideal. It had 3 swimming pools; a 15 min walk to a secluded beach with a restaurant and sun loungers/umbrellas. Half of this beach area was exclusively for the sun lounger's use (fee payable even if staying at hotel) and the other half was for general use.
At the hotel, there was a children's play scheme, but when we were there, the only other children did not speak English and the tutors struggled to keep a 4 year old entertained when the other children were older and all spoke Portuguese.
The maitre d' for breakfast was wonderful. She was very efficient and pleasant - advising us on sitting outside with a young one; ensuring everything ran smoothly. The breakfasts were among the best I have ever come across. The selection and quality was wonderful.
The rooms were very nice - my one complaint would be that the sofa bed was very poor quality. It was the only issue I had with this hotel.
"Beach"
The beach was a combination of soft, white sand and outcrops of stark rocks. The water was reasonably warm - warmer than Florida in May. It did have ledges that could put you quite deep very quickly, but it was quite easy to swim in also.
"Evening in Albufeira Old Town"
Albufeira Old Town was very lively with restaurants everywhere and street entertainers throughout. It made a nice change of pace from our quiet days by the pool/beach. There were bars/karaoke/entertainers along the side streets as well.
One of our favourite restaurants was up a side street where our table and many others were actually on the steps of this street. Even so, the service everywhere was very good and the food was fine. Sometimes, it felt too touristy, but to be expected when you are wandering through the tourist areas. The costs were reasonable.
