More about Forte Da Oura

11 out of 10!!

by TripAdvisor Member Miss_J85

My friend and i have just returned from a fantastic week staying at the Forte da Oura Hotel - which we went self catering and i have to say it was one of the best holidays i have been on.
The Hotel was nice, the food was nice, people were nice everything was just right including the weather.
we booked with a travel agent so transfers were included, which i would reccommend, as it saves u the trouble of fnding something, it took about 40 mins to get to the hotel from the airport, reception staff were friendly and we were amazed by the size of the apartment and we were really pleased with the facilites.
the pool area is a bit squashed and if you dont get their early lack of sun loungers can be a problem and whilst we were there the pool was very cold!! but you got used to it once in.
Staff in the hotel were very friendly and spoke very good english and the rooms were cleaned daily.
The hotel was in a prime location - 10 mins away from the hustle and bustle of the strip and numerous restaurants literally on the door step, and beaches within a good walking distance.
i would throughly recommend the Forte Da Oura in Albufeira to couples, families and friends!!

Great at front but not at back

by TripAdvisor Member cardwellt

We were supposed to be at the club Praia da Oura but were moved to the Forte da Oura.

However the hotel it self looked really nice from the front however at the back the only view you will have is of a building site. On which the work starts around 7:00 in the morning till 18:00 rendering the balcony useless apart from Sundays.

The rooms were actually of a good size and well equipped. The maids came round every day to clean however the time varied everyday sometimes as early as 9:30.

The hotel restuarant looked very good although we didn't eat there. Also the hotel bar is very small.

Entertainment was very limited and only on a couple of nights and from what we saw it wasn't very good.

Great self catering apartments

by TripAdvisor Member taff37

Used this site to help my choice of accommodation & Forte da Oura was a great choice.

Great location - 5 mins from beach/5 mins from Strip & a 4 euro taxi ride from the Old Town.

Despite VFM prices, the hotel has large, clean, well equipped rooms with balconies/English TV/modern kitchens/etc. Maids cleaned comprehensively/changed towels every day.

Only 'local charge' was safety deposit key!

Not necessarily for families (as no daytime entertainment & limited for evening entertainment) - but great base for couples looking to see Albufeira or the wider Algarve.

Pool area might prove inadequate in Jul/Aug but beach is 1st class.

Get a Freemap of Albufeira from the web or on your arrival to help you choose eating places/entertainment on the Strip & the Old Town. Marina 'area' still new - with many units to let - but a few nice cafes already in place.

A great place and conveniently located if you want to do your own thing

Forte da Oura is a well maintained but fairly non-descript self catering apartment complex which is well located in Montechoro (about 1 mile east of Albufeira) close to Oura beach and to the "Strip" nightlife. It's hard to criticize the service and apartments for what they cost. The apartments are large and well maintained with kitchen, microwave, fridge, balcony. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms were cleaned daily. The building offers a fairly small pool / sunbathing area, a restaurant, a bar, evening entertainment and some other amenities such as a small store. The complex is some 500m away from a beach up a hill but the walk is not hard and the location benefits you at night from being closer to the strip and businesses down side roads. There is also a bus stop straight outside and a proper supermarket not too far away. Note there was some building work at the back while we were there so if you have the choice, the sea view might be preferable. We experienced both since we had to stay at the back for one night. The sea view does actually afford you a view of the sea but there are trees and buildings in the way so don't expect much. All in all the place was comfortable, convenient, clean and quiet. And you won't get bothered by timeshare salesmen as happens in some of the larger resorts. What else is there to say?

Just a note about the "Strip" itself - avoid it if you can and don't think that's all there is. Most of the restaurants employ touts and it is impossible to walk up and down it without being hassled. The food is very expensive too and pretty poor. There are some very fine restaurants just away from the strip and the food, price and service is often better without touts outside the doors trying to drag you in.

Do Not Book This Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member GiaLondon

I and a friend (two girls) stayed here in April of this year for 5 days………. The hotel when we first arrived it looked good and we was pleased with it that we booked this hotel even though behind the hotel there was work going on…... on our third day of our stay when we arrived back to our hotel room we realised there was foot prints on the floor everywhere and they were of a man shoes and we are two girls so we knew they where not how foot prints. We ignored thinking it must have been a member of the staff doing maintenance check or something……. But when we looked around we had noticed all our clothes were all over the place and that someone had gone through our stuff……. And we realised we have been robed money, camera was taken and we was not gone for long we was downstairs having dinner in the hotel restaurant. We know it was someone from the hotel member of stuff because there was no sign of break in they came from the front door used a key…. We went down to let the hotel know and all we got was it was our fault that we had been robed and made to feel like crap……. We said it’s down to a member of staff as there was no break in and the foot prints came from the front door….. The hotel called the police and I warn you now don’t think you are going to get the same service you get here they walked in spoken in there language and again made us feel like it’s all our fault... they laughed and made a joke about it as I heard them with the lady at reception…….. So I strongly advice you do not stay in here…..

Hotel was fab!

I have just returned from this hotel and was very surprised by some of the negative feedback which is on this site. I have to say that I was very impressed by the hotel overall and would recommend it to anyone to stay in. Being a very particular person., that says alot!!! The 'studio' apartment was very spacious and kept absolutely immaculate by the very friendly cleaning staff, who came every day (apart from Sunday, the Portugese are very religious). The towels were also changed daily. Although envious of those who were allocated the huge corner apartments our 2nd floor balcony allowed us a great view and sunshine until well after 7pm. I was also dubious of weather in early May but found myself complaining of the heat! (Never happy!) The reception area/lobby houses a family of cute tortoises which adds a special touch and amusement for old & young alike. The swimming pool I have to agree was rather cool, but certainly was necessary in the heat, again this area was kept spotless by the friendly staff. Unimpressed by the 'famous Strip' I have to say if it hadnt been for the quality of the hotel I would have been dissappointed in the resort. I would highly recommend visiting the old town (there is a tourist train which takes you there from the strip) which has a better selection of nicer restaurants which I found easier to relax in! (Although the Jingdu Chinese on the Strip was fabulous and spotless too!) Enjoy your stay!!!

absolutly brilliant!!

by TripAdvisor Member x_x_lil_ebz_x_x

We have been staying at this hotel for the past week and just returned home yesterday, this hotel is brilliant, we couldnt belive how big the apartments were (alot bigger than we were expecting.) The hotel had entertainment on every night which was very good, this was made even better by the very fit young barman = )
The only bad thing we found was the staff in the hotel didnt seem to speak very good englsh so there was alot of confusion sometimes but this cant be helped i suppose.
We were a bit concerened after reading some other reviews about the buliding work going on - but we didnt see any of this while we were there. Out apartment had a pool view and was at the front of the hotel so we didnt see or hear any of the work which was going on.
I would defenitly recommend this hotel, it is in a very good location as the strip is just a 5/10 minute walk away and is very easy to find. here you will find shops, resterants and bars. The strip is miles long but we loved it.
The beach is also very close by, it is absloutly beautiful and also includes alot of different watersports (jet-skiing, paragliding etc)
we really enjoyed this holiday and cant wait to go back!!

Brilliant, go!!

This property is excellent, the rooms are huge, very clean and all round nice accommodation.
The only fault was the pool area which i thought was quite cramped and they was nowhere really for my little boy aged 2 to run around, the beds was were really close together which i dont like.
The studio rooms however i was really impressed with, still had a separate bedroom and lounge instead of being open plan like normal
Good location about 5 mins downhill to beach, fine going down but hard work getting back up (coped with a ice cream)!!
5 mins from the start of the strip which has all the restaurants and bars. Excellent value go to Top Deck steak house half way up the strip, lovely food
Have a trip to the Old Town too which is very picturesque and has a lovely square with rests/bars - it also has a good market round the old cobbled streets

Great place to stay!

22/07/07 - Just returned after spending a week in this lovely set of apartments. They are very well presented and maintained and very spacious. The bar is a little on the small size but the seating area in the lounge/reception is very comfortable and welcoming. The staff are very helpful. The walk down to the beach via the Club Praia Da Oura (just across the road) is very pleasant and not as taxing as I was led to believe! The strip is but a few minutes walk but you do not get any of the noise - thank goodness! There is also another street of restaurants if you turn left out of the apartments and then left again at the end of the road. The buses are reliable and if you get the City Centro green or blue line bus to the bus station, you can then get a bus to Lisbon, Portimao, Lagos etc. Be careful of the paths - they are very slippy and uneven! Would highly recommend the following restaurants: - Manel Dos Frangos, at the very top of the strip on the right hand side - minimal menu but excellent food! Restaurante O Leao, on the 2nd part of the strip, half way up on the right - brilliant fish Cataplana! Cineasta Caffe, on the other street mentioned above, 50 yards or so just off the main road on the left - lovely setting, contemporary decor. Will make a return visit to Albufeira!
