Praia da Rocha
by MATIM
Praia da Rocha is one of the most photographed places at the Algarve, and no wonder the beach of Praia da Rocha is beautiful with it's cliffs.
It is a pity they made a small Manhattan from the village, with the huge hotels and apartments.
Praia da Rocha is about a five minutes drive from Portimao.
Fresh Seafood
by timetotravel about Cais Velho
Above Praia dos Pescadores - great view of the Sea - great ambience - great food
Freshly cooked seafood - salmon, tuna, Golden Bream, Sea Bass etc etc
Don't be put off by the guy standing outside trying to persuade you to eat there - it is not a hard sell to rubbish food - the food is excellent!
It is beautifully presented on restaurant sized white porcelain plates - and it is delicious - you can also eat good meat dishes - the chiken piri piri was good and if you don't want veg with the dish they will give you salad with no problems.
Try the fresh orange juice too - refreshing! Seared Tuna with salad and fried potatoes
Ideal Venue For a Hen Weekend.....
by travellingrabbit
"Tacky But Fun"
I visited Albufeira on a hen weekend (so please don't expect any cultural highlights or useful tips). All I can say is that if you're looking for a place to party with cheesy bars and male attention, then this place was ideal. The main strip in the 'new town' is packed with bars playing English music, kareoke joints and fast food venues. I would absolutely hate to go here as a main holiday but for what we wanted, it was ideal. There are lots of well-off older men on golfing breaks and stag parties so plenty of opportunity for the hen to do a few dares...
I did venture down to the beach on one occasion - it was a smallish alcove but lovely fine sand.
Apparently the 'old town' is nicer but my alcohol-laden head and limbs couldn't drag me that far....
Unfortunately, from the very brief glimpse I caught of Portugal, this resort is extremely built up and I won't be returning (except maybe for another hen do!). Ideal for hen and stags, golfing weekends, the elderly and families.
