fantastic holiday
by TripAdvisor Member tropicalqueen
Just got back from yet another holiday in the algarve staying at the Tropical Sol Apartments Albufeira. This has to be the best place by far to stay we have stayed there 4 times now and love it. The apartments are clean and spacious and all the rooms overlook the pool area, which is also very clean private and well maintained. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the bar has a lovely couple running it. The apartments are situated behind the strip close enough to get to and far away enough to be quiet. I totally recommend anyone to stay here as we do every year.
Excellent accomodation and location

My Husband and I have just returned from a week in the Algarve, staying at the Tropical Sol Apartments.
We were very impressed with our accomodation, very clean and spacious, we also thought it was an excellent location, the restaurants and bars on the strip are only 10 minutes walk away, and the beaches are in walking distance. We found the reception staff to be very friendly and helpful, and the maid service was of good standard.
We sampled many of the lovely cakes at the local bakery shop which is just around the corner, which also sells lovely fresh rolls/bread.
We would not hesitate to return for another holiday at the Tropical Sol.... Excellent!!
If you get chance go and have a meal at The Blue Sky restaurant which is owned by a lovely portuguese family, it is located just off the strip.....
Excellent location for a holiday

My husband and I stayed at the Tropical Sol in September of this year for 2 weeks. We had never been to the Algarve before and were delighted with what we found there. The apartments are in a very good location, near enough to walk to the many bars and restaurants in the area but far enough away to get a peaceful nights sleep if you want one. The apartment we had was a 2 bedroomed, 2 bathroomed, very large lounge and kitchen area, very spacious and absolutely spotless, with towels changed every day and maid service every day except Sundays. The only problem we found was that our apartment was situated over the bar area, which was fine except for Karaoke evenings (wed and Fri) when the loud attempts at singing went on until about 1.30am.
Having said that we had a wonderful hoiday and there is so much to do and see in the area. The hoiday location catered for everyone, young and old and I would certainly recommend the Tropical Sol as a perfect location for a hoiiday in the Algarve.
Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't know what to expect after reading some reviews, but the Tropical Sol Apartments are well worth avisit. Very large very clean apartment over looking the pool, which is very clean and tidy with a great diving board which kept the kids happy, small outside bar for ice creams, drinks and snacks. Staff very helpful and polite. With the bakery just round the corner with fresh bread, rolls, cakes and pizza every morning it was lovely. Big supermarket just of worms roundabout.
4 mins walk to the strip which is full of bars shops ect, and lively when portugal won their first game in the world cup (a great atmosphere). The beaches are stunning with caves, holes in rocks and little coves, you can walk along the coastline and cliffs and find lots of hidden beaches, they were all very quiet too which was lovely. The sea was warm and in the afternoons became a little choppy great for playing in the waves.
Old town a little disappointing, there is a lot of work going on and workmen every where, Fishermans beach was a let down, the beaches in the new part are much much better.
Tropical sol had a free mini bus to take you to Inetal beach and the old town every day which was handy. The local water is brilliant, we had it almost to ourselves, try the Bonzi
VERY Scary.
Yes me and my family had a fantastic holiday and we can't wait to go back. Would stay at the Tropical Sol again. Try it!
We loved our holiday can't wait until next year

Hi,
It was our first time to portugal so if you are thinging about going i would and if you are going to stay at the Tropical Sol then i would say whats stopping you it's a fantastic hotel and place and we had a great time. We had our apartment right buy the pool so our little one could go in and out of the pool whan ever she liked. We had the most excellent weather it was hot every day not a cloud in the sky. The pool bar was excellent very pleasent and welcoming and so are all the staff. We also had a safety deposit box in our room you have to get a key for reception and they charge 40 euros but you do get 20 of them back when you take the key back. Could not fault the hotel will be going back next year can not wait.
The hotel is just right not to far away from the strip or old town, when we went to old town it was a bit of mess but that did not stop use you can still walk around the shops we had our breakfast right on the sea front and for a full english breakfast it was only 3 euros.
The bakery round the corner is lovely and there are shops and supermarkets close by you could not ask for more.
The cleaners came round every day except for sunday everyone needs a day off. The maitance guys are always around doing work to the hotel, cleaning the pool, putting lougers away on the eveings, things like that very well looked after hotel.
We went to the beach about 5 times out of the two weeks but the last time we went it was too hot and had to come off, but they are fantastic and well worth going.
You can get some excellent meals just around the corner from the hotel the resaurant next to the charlie chaplin pub has excellent meals. If you have get kids Tom and Jerry's just off the strip is good for kids and do a good sunday lunch 7 euros and thats with soup as a starter. We ilked going to the top of the strip by the 60's bar and the blues bar it's not so busy up that end if you have got kids or you just want to relax from the hustle and bustle of the bottom end of the strip.
I would also recommed a day out a Zoomarine it was excellent the show are well worth gonig to see my daughter liked the pater pan show with the sealions and i enjoyed the dolphin show. You can swim with the dolphins foe around and extra £100 but you have to be over eight and be able to swim. It costs about 70 euros for the three of us and thats with the coach picking you up and dropping you off just around the corner from the hotel and the food, drink and ice cream are around the same price asd the hotel/bars so they don't try to rip you off when you get in. The rides are all free when you get in too and you can go and see the sharks and there is also a parrot and a birds of pray show. so there is lots to do. We booked through our rep in the hotel.
so much more to say i would be here all night any way had a brill time hope you do too.
Well thats my review hope it helps check out my photos

Hi
5 of us are thinking of going to Albuferia in October 2009, just wondering if its still busy? Whats the nightlife like? Going there for the nightlife, so wanted to check everythings still buzzing & not shut down!
Also, can anyone recommend any hotels that are right near "The Strip"?
Thanks x

Depends when - early and mid October is still fairly busy but things tend to wind down after the UK half term holidays. Sure a lot of places may be closed even early October, that depends on business. You will still have plenty of choice. There is a permanent population of around 19,000 so we have to go out somewhere.
Hotel wise, anything with the word 'Oura' in it will be fairly close to the strip, as are Vila Nova, Valmangude Jardim and Tropical Sol.

I find that the night life there is alright, but was disappointed to see the throng of british tourists and bars (no offense, guys, just telling you what i saw!) and hearing english spoken in every single corner i turn. Just thought I'll see a bit more portuguese stuff happening - then again, maybe my host didn't show me enough ;)
Though alternatively it means that everything is quite accessible and people are friendly for sure. Oct 2009 might be a bit cold already for really hot beach weather if thats what you are looking for. In Albufeira, I also recommend renting a car, or bikes- will be easier to go around places.
