More about Tropical Sol Hotel Algarve

would not return

by TripAdvisor Member chucks

we have just returned from the tropical sol,the apartments are massive but we got there on the saturday and had to ask for the room to be cleaned on the wednesday as the maid had only made the bed and folded the towels, the reception staff were so miserable, although i must say marco who ran the bar was brilliant and so were the poolside snack bar staff. The town we found was either for youngsters or retired people not families, also it was very expensive and we were not the only family who found this to be the case.We wil not be returning to the algarve and would not recommend the tropical sol to families or people who like to see smiling faces.

Fab holiday

Having just got back from a fantastic holiday in the Algarve, We thought we would have to share our views. We had our two teenage children (aged 17 and 15) with us and must say this was the best self catering holiday that we have all had. The Tropical Sol apartments were extremely spacious and clean. The pool was lovely and clean along with the grounds. The pool side staff were great and would recommend their english breakfast! Tropical Sol although close to the strip is not affected by the noise. Taxi's were so cheap and would recommend this as a form of transport if you wish to go to the old town (great atmosphere). We were very sad to leave and would definately return.

A very good time was had by all

I would like to thank all the staff at the Tropical Sol for a lovely two weeks break - all staff were very friendly and very helpful. We travelled for the first time with a little one and were quite nervous about her first trip abroad, although we were travelling with friends who are a dab hand at child care, being parents and grand parents themselves. But I have got to say that the staff were extremely kind - especially the couple in the snack bar and the other couple in the evening bar.

The apartments were more than adequate for what we needed alhtough we were worried about the steps but Carlos (one of the lad who worked the reception) did immediately offer to change our rooms (which we declined) but the offer was nice.

The rooms are cleaned on a daily basis (except Sunday - even cleaners need days off!) and fresh towels also given on a daily basis (not sunday), which is very handy given we travelled with a baby!!!

I would highly recommend staying at the Tropical Sol, maybe not if you are a bunch of youngsters looking for a happening place (let's keep it nice secret for families and couples!).

One of the best holidays ever!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Tropical Sol for a week in July 2006 and we absolutely loved it. We were given a studio apartment which was on the same level as the pool so we were literally a few feet away from the grass where we could sunbathe! The apartment itself was ideal with air conditioning, microwave, toaster, TV with quite a few British channels and was always tidied and cleaned except on Sunday.

There were enough sun loungers to go round and also free use of matresses for them which I thought was quite unusual as you normally have to pay for things like that. Also, if you don't like getting up at dawn to reserve a sun lounger that's not a problem. Most days we didn't go sun bathing until at least 10.30am and we always got 2 loungers. The pool is also great, enough room for the amount of people staying, very cold though which is nice when it's hot outside! It's open until about 7pm which is good if, like us, you don't tend to get up until later due to too many cocktails the night before! There's also a snack bar right next to it which does omelettes, salads, fry ups, coffee, beer etc which is handy if you don't want to leave the pool side.

The location of the apartments was great too - about a 5 minute walk to the Strip where there are loads of bars, restaurants and shops. We preferred the Old Town which was a bit more of a walk but only about 20 minutes or so and there is a bus service but we never used it as we preferred to stroll down there. The Old Town has more class and seems to have more restaurants and shops than the Strip but both were great fun.

If you're thinking of going to the Tropical Sol then I'd say go for it as we didn't have any complaints at all and there were lots of families and couples of all ages and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves so they seem to cater for all ages.

Loved it, great place to stay.

I wanted to leave a short review as I found Trip Advisor extremely useful in selecting a holiday destination. The reviews I read gave an accurate picture of what is a clean and friendly hotel in a great location for the strip and Oura beach.

I dont usually mind where I stay, but my girlfriend isnt so easy to please but even she loved the place. Its about 4 or 5 mins walk from the strip, so its quiet but convenient. It also has a supermarket, newsagent and bakery right next to it, little things go a long way!! Its also 2mins walk from the train/bus that takes you to the centre of the old town in under 10 mins, though thats a bit messy with the renovations. Overall though, an excellent holiday!!
