Out of town ,stunning gardens and pools.

Stayed in one of the new apartment blocks at the rear of the development, all new apartments, ours was furnished to a high standard with all mod cons, good parking.
Takes about 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the town of Alvor and the beach, taxis are plentifull and reasonable and bus service very reliable and cheap, but for a relaxing holiday this complex was fantastic. Recommend this for families looking for a safe , secure holiday with the lagoon style pools and lovely extensive gardens.

Bus advice - Alvor

by juenbecks

Hi,

Can anyone please advise me of either the quickest route from Villa Marachique to the beach or which bus would take us nearest without having to change buses. ( I believe there is a bus stop just outside the apartments, but not sure if it goes to the beach and back)

Going in just over 5 weeks, so any info is appreciated

The only bus that goe to the Alvor beach is the number 8. This runs into Alvor through Penina, past the aerodrome and down the hill to the Alvor roundabout then round the corner to the beach.

Any other buses pointing at Alvor go to the roundabout and no further.

But in which road/street is Villa Marachique?

Hi,

Thanks for your help, the apartment is opposite POR DE SOL, can I get the number 8 from here and back again if I get on it just outside the carpark which leads to o,luis on the beach

According to what I now know "Vila Marachique is NEXT TO ALTO GOLF,..." which is taking a bit of a liberty - the map I found says it is on the Estrada do Alvor, a little over half a mile from the Alvor roundabout and the entrance to the village.

The bus that goes past (Vai e Vem number 10)only goes as far as the Alvor roundabout. That will leave you ten minutes walk, maybe a little more, to the beach or a wait for the number 8, direction Praia de Alvor.

The number 10 runs every 20 minutes every day during September, but the number 8 only every half hour (every hour Saturday afternoons and Sundays) so they don't really meet up at Alvor except by accident.

I have cobbled together some information about these buses on this webpage

www.algarvebus.info/052.htm

The local council does not see fit to post timetables for its buses at many of the stops - at least not when I last visited the general area. I intend to re-visit Alvor and Praia do Vau and update that page (if possible) within a week.

You may be relieved to know that taxis are fairly readily available at the Alvor roundabout, should the uphill walk back and the wait for a bus prove a bit too much.

I hope that helps., Enjoy your trip.

Small update - I went through Alvor on the bus yesterday and I can confirm that there is no bus information whatsoever posted at the important Alvor bus stop. And they wonder why the buses run empty and visitors take taxis!

Fantastic.you have been very helpful, I will pass on the info to my friends, they can then decide if they want the No. 10 followed by the No.8 or a taxi.

Thanks again
