    Best hotel for the beach!

    by

Hotel Garbe made our holiday! We booked a landview room with no balcony and got upgraded to a huge seaview room!
It had no balcony but good air conditioning which was enough and a sofa and coffee table. We felt like we were at home!
Hotel Garbe is right by the sea so it took us 5 mins to walk to the beach which was really convenient.
We could pop back to the hotel if we forgot something or leave the beach at siesta time and go off for lunch very easily.
You can get a safe by giving a 7 euro deposit.

There is a games area with 2 pool tables, plenty of space at breakfast time with continental breakfast and cooked breakfasts!

We have never been to a hotel with such close proximity to the beach so we didn't have to walk for ages to get to the beach.
In the mornings you have to be up early to get a lounger by the pools or sundecks, about 8am, as many people reserve the loungers with their towels.
We were fine as we always went to the beach and there are plenty of loungers there. Do not use the ones with reserved signs, but you can reserve a sun lounger yourself for the next day by paying the full price the day before. It is 14 euros and 11 euros after 4pm.

The beach is excellent and if you walk west, to the left of the hotel there are some caves and a secret beach to explore.
The resort is full of Portuguese families in August which makes it a very friendly and authentic experience.
The sea is quite cold so you have to be brave and throw yourself in it to get warm.

Hotel Garbe also has an excellent Indian Restaurant called The Raj which we enjoyed so much we went twice.
You can book at the reception, which helps you avoid waiting for a table later on.

Its a great hotel for young couples, families and older people who want a quiet hotel.

Unique Quality: The view from the breakfast terrace is amazing! Its so nice to have breakfast right by the sea!

A quality hotel is the hotel garbe and we were located right on the beach front while we stayed here making for a relaxing first 3 days to our vacation .Good food but unfortunately the service was not

Don't miss Raj! So good we went there twice!

by jeli

I think there are only 2 Indian Resturants in Armacao De Pera. We stayed at the Hotel Garbe where Raj is so we went to that one and it was highly recommended by a friend.

He was not wrong. The ambience is lovely, with huge mirrored skylights and if you want to eat out on the terrace overlooking the beach, you can.

The service is lovely and a great place for birthday parties or children as it is situated in a hotel and not right by the street.

You must go to The Raj if you are coming to Armacao De Pera. as outstanding restaurants there are few and far between. The curries were impeccable, probably one of the best we have tasted.
I ordered the Karachi Lamb and it was so tender and melt in your mouth that I ordered it again the next time!

Great Hotel

Just returned from a fantastic week in Armacao de Pera. The staff are fantastic and can't do enough to help.
The Hotel Garbe is in a great location on the beach and it was worth paying extra for a sea view!
When we go back again I think it will be earlier in the year as although it was warm there was still a wind chill. Armacao de Pera is the Portuguese's holiday location so October is 'out of season' so it was fairly quiet which we really enjoyed.

Lovely hotel

Stayed at the Hotel Garbe for 3 nights with our 15 year old son. Room was a good size with a/c very clean. Excellent braekfasts with plenty of choice. Could not always get sun loungers straight away but the beach was only a minute away. I think it was 15E for a brolley and 2 beds all day.
Entertainment in the lounge every night but acts very dated, happy hour between 7-8pm. Not much for children to do although there was a pool table (hence not many children in the hotel even though it was the school holidays) Raj restaurant in hotel very good. Not the best area of Portugal, had previously spent a week in an apartment near Carviero. Hotel was a relaxing break and would definately recommend.

good clean hotel

We have just come back from a 4 night break at the Hotel Garbe booked very late. We paid extra for a sea view room and I would recommend you do this if you possibly can. The room had a very clean nice bathroom, clean towels and sheets the only disappointment was no fridge! Breakfast was a nice selection of cooked, continental and pastries and always a spare table - all self service. I would still say from the outside it looked a bit shabby and was definitely not a 4 star. For most of our break the lift was out of order and as we were on the 5th floor the day we left we had to bring our suitcases down in the service lift.
I read all the reviews before hand and agree the town is a bit of a concrete jungle regading all the apartment blocks, the town is absoultely full of them. Loads of restaurants, we liked Arte Nautica which was a good walk to the west of the town on the beach. Lovely food and staff. Everyone rated Clipper restaurant we thought it was Beefeater style food, awful, but each to their own. There are loads of restaurants and its best for you to judge them yourselves, although there was a nice Pizza place in the pedestrian area. We didnt eat in the hotel or the Raj Indian. There is a nice atmosphere at night in the town, quite a lot of Portugese on holiday and no English lager louts. The beach may well be 5 miles long but you have to walk quite a way to the west of the town to see the sand which we did and it was nice and quite.
We had a late flight home and asked for a late check out but the hotel were fully booked. They very kindly offered us the use of a room to shower in before we went home which was extremly kind but I would have been so disappointed if we had to stay in it. Room 111 has a view of a brick wall, no balcony and no bath only a shower and the whole room flooded when used, still I was very grateful.

brilliant

We went to Portugal and stayed in the Hotel Garbe the first week in November and the weather was really hot. The hotel is fantastic and very clean. We had a sea view room which i recommend the views were amazing you get to see the sunset. Whilst in Portugal we had the chance to book some activities during the week so we chose to go on a Jeep Safari and visit Zoo Marine. The Jeep Safari was really good the drivers were very comical and we got to see some gorgous views and taste some fire water. In Zoo Marine we watched a bird show, sea lion show and best of all the dolphin show. We also booked to swim with the dolphins which is the most wonderful experience ever. The dolphins are so friendly and amazing animals i recommend this activity to everyone its a once in a life time experience that you never forget.

Everyone at the hotel were very friendly and caring. Six of us stayed at Hotel Garbe (3 couples) and whilst we were there we made a huge dolphin sand sculture which the manager took a picture of and left a free drink in the bar for us. We made alot of elderly friends whilst we were there.

The bar in the hotel was quite expensive so i would suggeset that you drank in happy hour 7-8pm.

We would recommend to eat in the Raj Restaurant in the hotel the food is great. I also recommend the Happy Talk chinese restaurant nearby to the hotel it was the best chinese i had ever tasted.

We are glad that we went bed and breakfast as we got to eat out in the evenings and there are loads of gorgous restaurants in the area. The breakfast in the hotel was brilliant and had a wide variety to choose from. Overall our stay was fantastic we really enjoyed ourselves and are hoping to go back next year.

Excellent.

just returned from a glorious hol at the Garbe Hotel. We had a comfortable quiet room with amazing views of the beach and ocean.Service was spot on.Staff very attentive.Buffet style food good and plentiful...you must also try the Raj restaurant attached to the hotel-the food there was excellent! We like to explore and found the bus service a tad inconveient..about 1 every 2 to 3 hours!..so we did a lot of walking. One restaurant you must try is in the next village(5mins in taxi)Vale de Gale..can't remember the name but it was once a lighthouse and the dining room is on the top with spectacular views and magnificent food.Enjoy!

Stuck in a time warp

by TripAdvisor Member ArdMhacha

This hotel needs a drastic overhaul to merit its so called 4 star status I would rate it as a 2. The exterior paintwork on railings and wood is peeling and the whole place outside has a run down look, inside it is 1970s decor and needs a revamp. The pool is a joke and feels helmed in and the sunloungers are on top of each other. The breakfast was very poor with a limited selection of fruit most of which seemed to come from a tin. The plus side is that our room had a sea view and two large windows with great views, lovely walks to the left of the hotel and the hotel is very clean. We went to a fabulous restaurant called mamulu down on fishermans beach on the main front. Overall Armaco de pera is a concrete jungle and is very busy.

Fantastic Hotel

A great holiday, relaxing, good service and food. Lots of people returning every year is a good sign of a quality hotel. The hotel is well located right next to the beach with access from the pool. Rooms were clean and well appointed.
