More about Tivoli Carvoeiro

Enjoyed the Tivoli

by TripAdvisor Member Danille

Stayed 10 days at the Tivoli Almansor in July and had a very enjoyable time.
We were given a triple room which was very clean and spacious and had the benefit of 2 large verandas with sea views. The pool area was quite small but always kept very clean. My sons enjoyed the activities in the hotel especially volleyball which is played at 5.00pm every day. The activity team were very friendly and tried to keep people amused without being too pushy.
The dinners in the hotel were good but the breakfasts were a disappointment. There was not a lot of choice and, be warned, the waffles are very doughy!
The staff were all helpful and very friendly and we had an enjoyable time at the hotel and would return there.

Splendid location

Hello! We are just back from a one week break at the Tivoli Almansor Hotel (couple with 11 y old twins). Here are our impressions; when booking your room make sure you are asking for frontal sea view. A real must! Other rooms have garden views. We booked two connecting rooms. Rooms are big and ok. Income hall is sober and not impressive at all but dining room and bars are cosy and nicely decorated. They are located on the 5th floor as hotel is built on a cliff. Breakfast is served on that same floor (great view on the bay); fresh fruit every day (pineapple, papaya, mango, cut oranges), all kinds of bread/toast, cereals, waffles, etc... Every night we found some great restaurants in the village. If you like fresh fish try the catch of the day! There is no beach at the hotel (only further down) but not necessary if you come at that time of the year. You can sunbath in the garden and enjoy the beautiful views on the cliffs! The kids enjoyed the 29°C heated indoor pool very much. We played tennis every day but thought 10 Euros/hour was excessive! The service was ok. Especially the waiters were very kind and polite. At the reception I would say they were not all "that" efficient... We rented a car and would recommend it to everybody! Algarve is beautiful and quiet if you can avoid July/August months. We had nice temperatures (about 20 -23°C), some cloudy days and even some rain. I would recommend this hotel to families, couples, golf lovers, and retired people.

What a fab holiday!!!!!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We booked this holiday through Expedia and got an excellent deal.We--me, my fiance and our 15mth old daughter have never been to Portugal and wanted a relaxing break, which is what we got!
We were abit disappointed not having a sea view room but once we seen them we thought its probably safer to have a land view with a toddler. The room wa spacious and clean with a large enough balcony for two chairs and table
Once we had settled we had a brilliant time, the staff were so helpful and friendly and nothing was a problem. They made us so comfortable. The breakfast was lovely especially the omlettes with whatever you wanted!!.We only went on a B&B so we would have sandwiches from a cafe/ice-cream shop down the hill and tea in one of the bars.
The weather was excellent and we spent our days at the pool or down on the Beach. The views near the white chapel are breathtaking,we took our daughter there to the park.
We are going back to Almansor in April 06.We cant wait to see the familar faces again and enjoy a break away in such a fab hotel!

Worth it only if you have a sea view

by A TripAdvisor Member

I'm just back from a week at the Almansor. We upgraded to a sea-view on arrival at a cost of 20 Euros per night and as we had got an initial bargain on expedia. It was worth it to have a breathtaking view from our room every morning; the room itself was spacious but nothing to write home about.

The breakfasts were again nothing special; rather repetitive, and it was disappointing to have tinned fruit rather than fresh fruit, which one would have thought would have been in abundance.

The pool area was fine; again the view being the highlight, and not being school holidays there was plenty of space and free sunbeds. Having fresh beach towels on demand was a bonus.

Carvoeiro town was ok; not as much to offer as Praia da Rocha or Alvor, and notably anglicised. However the restaurants on the way down the hill from the hotel were pleasant, although all offering the same fare.

As beach goers, we were very disappointed. The little cove in the middle of town was indeed suitable for toddlers, but not for those that liked walking along the beach, or who wanted a bit of privacy. The municipal sunbeds were sandwiched so close together that I could hear the converations of all the other sunbathers. And they were extortionately expensive at 13 Euros a pair; again we chose the more superior beaches of Alvor and Praia da Rocha.

To sum up, a week staying in a sea-view room is definitely worth it, if you get a bargain. But the town and the rest of the hotel left a lot to be desired, and we were glad to have a hire-car so make our escape during the day.

There are various levels of satisfaction posted on this Hotel - my comment would be simply that no one holiday location can serve all tastes. So, our experience (2 adults, 2 children) was very positive. Hotel is probably a mid range UK 4star in terms of ratings and the pricing is what we would consider to be above average for the accommodation. The Hotel is however very nice and our rooms were good (clean, comfortable and well serviced). The staff, without exception, were very customer aware and friendly / helpful. The Hotel catered particularly well for children's activities and the facilities were very good (only negative would be a very small gym). Food in the Hotel was in general of a high standard but the breakfast area is a bit hectic - typical buffet arrangement. The location of the Hotel and its actual setting is great - steep steps down to the little beach but beautiful bay. Local restaurants are good (avoid the California pizza place where customer service is not on offer !! Particularly good were the Primavera, the Thai restaurant and the Indian). The SCUBA Dive centre at the Hotel was great too - full PADI courses offered and v helpful staff.

Free Internet access from the lobby or chargeable from room.

We have just returned from a 2 week break at this Hotel. Will we return - yes. Recommended for families with young - early teens.

Eggs in every possible permutation!

by TripAdvisor Member Iris

If you like eggs for breakfast then this hotel is for you. Eggs in every which way and not a lot else! We were very disappointed in this hotel but as our two weeks' stay was a present from our daughter we had to keep quiet about our dissatisfaction. I have just been reading some of the reviews and all the unpleasant memories come flooding back. Maybe they have improved since our stay -I hope so.

Apart from the awful food - we were so glad we had not booked half board - the staff were most unhelpful and there was some kind of scam going on at the bar. When ordering g and t's we were instucted to go out to the terrace and our drinks would be brought out to us. Although we ordered Gordons we saw the barman pour the cheaper local gin in our glasses. We wrote a strong letter of complaint and never even had the courtesy of a reply.

We shall not be returning to this hotel ever.
