we are heading to Carvoeiro at the end of September and was wondering if anyone could confirm that we can buy SMA Gold milk ready to use?
I never heard of that brand but I don't know very well the market. What I can tell you is that there are 2 pharmacies in Carvoeiro (one in the left street in front of the beach, and the other one in the street in the right - not the streets that go up the hill). Both have baby milk, probably a bigger variety than supermarkets and more careful advices.
You can also purchase baby milk in Intermarche that is in the road between Lagoa and Carvoeiro or in the Supermarkets of Lagoa (Modelo, Plus and Aldi). Plus and Aldi have probably less choice since these are hard discounts.
Brands that I know of baby milk in Portugal are Nestlé and Milupa.

Learn a couple key phrases, like 'Thank You', which is obrigado (when thanking a man), and obrigada (when thanking a woman). Some are unphased by meager attempts at the language. Others smile widely when you try, but they reply with English.
Most speak English, by the way. The Portuguese are very friendly.
