Clube Praia de Oura: Nice Accommodation shame about the entertainment

by gnixs

My friend and I stayed here week 15th - 22nd October 2011 in a one bed apartment which faced on to the bowling green (in distance) and sea to our left. Lovely view and would be happy to stay in this apartment again (549). Our balcony was one of the few to be part covered which meant that it did not get too hot.
The room was spotlessly clean, as with all the kitchen utensils. if you had wanted to feed yourselves there was everything you would need. Small oven, two rings, and pots, pans, fridge/freezer, cutlery cooking utensils.
There is however no air con, which could be a problem, particularly at night, as there is no way to get a through draught into the apartment.
FOOD in the complex - we found the waiters rude and surly and the food quite passable - after two attempts we went local which was far better, quite reasonable, and food served with a smile, laugh and generally a voucher for 20% off if we ate again.
ENTERTAINMENT - dire - frankly an early night with a good book was more appealing! Not everyone wants to play bingo until 10.30 p.m.
BEACH - very good, very clean, good to swim and just soak up the sun!

COMPLEX GROUNDS - these were absolutely spotless, as indeed was the apartment. All the groundsmen and cleaners deserve a big thank you - it cant be easy particularly in the height of the season.

It is a hilly area, but you can get out into "The Strip" (main shopping/restaurant area) by going into the sister complex (Oura View Beach club) and going up in the lift to top and then exiting via car park. You cannot return this way, but as it is down hill on the way back not such a problem!

I think this is an excellent base for exploring more of the Algarve providing you avoid the nightlife on the complex and their restaurants.

perola do algarve: honeymoon from hell!!

by niesha

Thought we were going to a four star hotel for a lovely relaxing honey moon but when we arrived the pool side had been taken over by drunken, loud men who didn't mind getting naked in front of children. The staff were not controlling the situation as they seemed more content to hide out the back. The hotel was old and dated and needed a revamp. The dining area had ants crawling up the walls. Food was limited choice and always cold, even the hot food. The female staff were not helpful at all as they were unwilling to listen to anybodys complaints. If you had children there, the gaming area was closed even on rainy days. The pool was only cleaned out after complaints were made. The bar in the evenings was not stocked properly and the bar staff were struggling to keep up on demand. The only thing that made it worthwhile was the people that we met. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a relaxing holiday.

Vila Gaivota: Serenity

by Elizabeth20

The apartment was very spacious with kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living area and an oversized balcony which had an excellent view of the surrounding landscape and the sea, however, whilst fine in mid September the lack of air conditioning may be a problem in the hottest months of the year. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was of good quality and variety.

This is an ideal holiday location if you just wish to unwind or get away from city life and stresses. The local bus takes you to the beautiful fishing village of Ferragudo or onto to Portimao, alternately it is approx. 30 minute walk into the village.

At the hotel in the evening after dinner there is little to do other than listen to music or watch TV in the lounge but it is a great place to chill and get away from it all.

The grounds were pleasant to walk through as there were beautiful gardens with an array of of various coloured flowers, a small pond containing goldfish and 2 swimming pools; the smaller suitable as a paddling pool for younger children

Pestana Alvor Park Hotel: Our Winter Retreat

by Balam

The hotel is part of The Pestana group of hotels and resorts, one of 5 in Alvor. beautifully furnished rooms with all the amenity's you would wish for, (there are 55 apartment type rooms). the staff are friendly and helpful. The first year we stayed there the restaurant was open in the evenings and the food if not a little pricey was first class, but in 2007 they had decided that it was not worth opening in October because it was not that busy and so it just opened in the afternoon for lunch which was a great disappointment and also proves inconvinent for people who do not wish to walk into or around Alvor when it may well be cold and raining. Another great let down is the hotel bar, now we don't want long nights of loud disco music and alcohol fuelled conversation but a few drinks with a bit of music would be nice, instead all you get is a TV with football on or silence. absolutely no atmosphere at all, something that they really do need to do something about. Just some music would help.
In Oct 2008 i have arrived to find that they are now charging for use of the wireless internet and at €8 per hour it can work out very expensive for people who have work to do or just like to keep in touch with friends.

The Aparthotel offers a swimming pool, Health club, sauna, spa, laundry, Restaurant/snack bar

all in all it is a nice hotel but it really does need a few points addressing

Old Village: Quaint little place

by elmasri

Aparthotel situated 2min driving (10-15 min walking) from Vilamoura centre and Marina.

Old Village has a series of fully furnished aparthotels divided in little groups of 40 or so apartments mostly around a pool, but even if yours is not next to it you are still given a card to use the pools.

There is a supermarket and a few bars and restaurants in the premises, an estate agent who also books tours so quite handy. Everyone speaks english everyone is english... lol

Sorry not sure about price as we got a special friends' price but i guess it must be around 80 to 100 euros not more.

Adelaide Residêncial: Great pension

by pecsihornet

We stayed 5 nights in this pension. 500 m far from the bus and railway station, safe, very nice, big rooms. It was 35 EUR/night. Breakfast is included.
I highly recommend to the most demanding people also!

Hotel Alcazar: With views over Spain

by rob-craig

I booked a stay here for two weeks over the easter period as a package deal with my childern,I was a little dubios staying in a slightly more "grown up" surrounding with them, but as it turned out my kids being them are on the whole well behaved and are more than happy with a swimming pool and a stroll to the beach.service was ok however Sonia the manager was a miserable C@# but that was her loss.I would stay here again however one big peice of advice is DO NOT EXCHANGE MONEY AT THIS OR ANY OTHER HOTEL in this resort .We only got 1.30 euros to the Pound, when the rate was 1.47 ,we went to another nearby resort and got 1.42 euros to the pound.

The room was on the 7th floor so we had superb views to spain and the surrounding area it was massive 2 twin rooms both with tv and a one with mini-bar. the pool area was spotlessly clean had a covered snack bar area ,meals were good lots of choice. With an internet point and a games room to keep the kids happy we also had bikes for hire, tennis court, volleyball net and a playpark

Real bellavista: A real 4 star hotel

by rob-craig

Stayed at the Real bellavista in Albufeira for 4 nights before christmas ,after having just spent 3 nights in a 3* hotel you could really see the diffrence althoughit was low key at this time of year they still laid on alittle entertainment for you . I have been in quite a number of 4* hotels in this is definately one of the better ones.Yhe only downside was some but not all of the staff looked like they just didn't want to be bothered. If you want a bit of quality and comfort without breaking the bank and don't mind being 10-20 min walk from beach/resort i would recommend this one.

in one word CLASS! Fine reception area,a very relaxing bar area super rooms and acoutesy shuttle bus to and from beach and resorts

Hotel Luar: For a low cost hotel on the edge of a resort

by rob-craig

The Hotel luar, is one i would definately recommend , if you are wanting a very cheap hotel as your base to explore the area this is a definate .I stayed here for 3 nights just before christmas and the resorts and hotels were very quiet, the rooms were basic but clean and comfortable and a balcony with a sea view on the edge of the resort you could easily walk to the centre in 20 mins or be alone on a beach within 5.For only £8 per night including continental breakfast this was superb value and in a good location too!
