What is the best time for visit Lagos???

by crostudent

Please tell me is it smart to go there in November or September and October are better and why?

Hello,

Surelly it depends on what you are looking for.
As you probably know, Lagos is by the seaside in the southern part of portugal, and by that reason, September is the best time for beach.
although it can be a bit crowd around the city, there are many beaches to "hide-away".
October gets colder, that implies less people and November even less.
So, if you are not looking to go to the beach, november is the less crowed.
hope it helps.

August or September are better: It's warm - September is usually the month with less wind.
October is 50/50. It can be either sunny and warm, or already rainig. It also becomes dead.
In November, it usually rains and it cools down (for Portuguese standards - 15 degrees)

Is there any young people in Lagos during the October and November, or me and my friends will be there alone if we decide to go in Nov?

As far as I know, young backpackers go there more in August. In September, I think there are many tourists as well, but I have never been there in September. I can tell you that whe weather is usually settled in September, with less wind. Because it is the end of the summer, the sun is not so agressive and the sea is warmer (warmed up throughout the Summer).
October, has still tourists, depending on the year (tourism has had ups and downs in the Algarve), but not many young people, more families, sailors, yatchers, golf players, some alternative life stylers who live there.
November is usually dead. It rains, unless there is a drought winter as in 2004. Almost all tourist restaurants and hotels close for holiday this month. Good time to go north, to Lisbon and Porto.
I mentioned in the last post 15 degress, meaning above zero (the dash doesn't mean negative).

Suggestion: visit Sagres and the beaches around. Watch the sunset on a beach on the west coast, while hearing the sound of the waves (more in the summer).

Travel Tips for Lagos

Kayaking around the coast.

by RudoElCojonudo

Lagos has a really beautifull coast.
You can arrange a three hours kayak tour for about 25€.
You´ll have the oportunity of seeing the cliffs and the caves from the sea, a really exiting experience.
They also stop in a little beach where you could climb in the cliffs and jump. Be careful, they are really sharp!!
You can also do some snorkeling.

You can arrange it at:
- Praia da Batata.
- In Largo Marques de Ponbal, in front of the tourist information office. Very important:
- Suncream.
- Watter.
- Hat.

Beautiful riverside, patterned promenade in Lagos

by dlytle

What strikes you first when you arrive in Lagos is the long park-like riverside promenade which runs right from the highway and past a section of the old cities stonewall. It’s a lovely cobblestone and mosaic-patterned promenade stretching the length of the estuary to the new Marina, uncluttered, nicely landscaped, very clean and pedestrian-friendly. It is reminiscent of similar promenades on the Costa del Sol and the French Riviera.

Slave Market

by Willettsworld

One of the darker periods in Lagos’ history is the time when in the 15th century the town sported a market at which slaves, imported from North Africa, were sold on a market. The first African slaves entered post-medieval Europe through this small building that dates back to 1444 although most of it dates to 1691 by request of the 2nd Marquis of Niza, D. Francisco Luis da Gama, who built the Guards Mess over the building where the slaves used to be sold.

The main facade is divided into two parts, with a wide porch and double arches. On the ground floor a large room has been converted into an art gallery. The second floor was used as the Lagos Customs office until 1820. Over the years it has been used for different purposes such as an Inspection Office.

the place I used to pretend to go

by Faracy

"Is it still as magical..."

When I was little growing up in landlocked Minnesota, thousands of miles from any ocean my friend and I would lay on a sheet on the floor in my bedroom wearing bathing suits and pretend to be somewhere else... we didn´t know where this place was, but it was on the REAL OCEAN, not just a lake.
It would have exotic hippies selling stuff in the streets.. There would be places open all night, and everyone would speak English, but of course with an accent... and speak a mystery language when not speaking English...
Well, at the age of 20 we found the place that we used to go on (vacation)... such a place existed, and it was called Lagos.
