As you enter Lagos on N125 from the west, the first thing that impresses you is the clean modern whitewashed houses' with their orange tiled roofs. You proceed over the hill and on your right is a breathtaking harbor with breakwaters, pleasure boats and blue waters. You go down the hill and the town appears on your left and the activity of the harbor area increases.
If you enter Lagos from the est you will see this fountain where the water does this curious shape of a boat.
Lamb Cataplana

A restaurant nice and cosy
service with a smile and spoke English, there was a nice ambiance about this place with candles on the tables, and were not to be disappointed,the food was cooked fresh .nothing was too much trouble. Lamb Cataplana, we had heard about the Cataplanas from other visitors to Lagos but did not realy know what to expect.
It was one of the most tastiest dishes I have ever had,with potatoes and big chunks of lamb, and the dish must have been two feet around (massive),needless to say we ate most of it and went back another night for the same.
I highly reccommend it.
Henry the Navigator

Although he didn't sail himself, Henrique (Henry) (1394-1460), the third son of King João I, laid the foundations for Portugal's maritime expantion that were latter built upon by King João II and consolidated by King Manuel I.
As Master of the wealthy Order of Christ and Governor of the Algarve, Henry was able to finance expeditions along the African coast.
By the time he died he had a monopoly on all trade south of Cape Bojador. The legend tells that he founded a great school of navigation either at Sagres (see also my page) or Lagos. %f
Lagos: pearl of the western Algarve

Lagos has managed to preserve its friendly character and its relaxed atmosphere. No high flats, like the Spanish costas or like parts of the east Algarve. In every season one spends here your ideal holiday.
