How to get from Lisbon to Lagos

by krobs85

Hi, I am going to Lagos for a few days in April and I am flying into Lisbon but I can't figure out how to get to Lagos from there. Are there buses and trains that go directly to Lagos?

you have direct busses several times a day.
it takes about 4-5 hours.

you can also go by train, but will usually need to change trains once on the way to lagos.

Another option is Rede Expressos (http://www.rede-expressos.pt).
It is always good to have alternatives...

To see the trains, go to www.cp.pt.

Greetings and enjoy your stay!

In my opinion, the train is the best option. It's faster and much more comfortable and you can even peacefully enjoy a drink or a snack on the inboard caffe while the train smoothly wanders through beautiful portuguese landscape. Get on the Alfa-Pendular(faster) or the Intercidades train on Oriente train station. You can choose between 1st or 2nd class(it's about 5EUR difference). You'll only have to change train's in Tunes(Algarve) and it doesn't take that long(10 minutes). The portuguese railway company website in english is http://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnextoid=87cbd5abe2a74010VgnVCM1000007b01a8c0RCRD&lang=en

A local nutcase takes you out in a boat

by Westbrook

The locals were surprised when they realised that I'd not heard of their internationally renowned grottos. To plug this hole in my knowledge we signed up for a trip to visit them.

Great way to spend a spare hour. Make sure:
a) the tide's out
b) the sun's out
c) the chap driving the boat's not on speed

Then look for one of the dozen or so operators strewn along the Avenida and in the Marina.

You get picked up on the quayside and taken on the a tour of the beaches and coastal rock formations. The boats are small, and the driver's keen... to impress you with their deft boat handling skills and their ability to call out the names of animals in English and German. We later learned that this was the guided part of the trip, and the animals were what the rocks apparently resembled. Perhaps, if you've been getting through a lot of the local wine.

On the plus side, the boat will take you on a tour past the best westward beaches, through impressive golden rock arches and into, otherwise inaccesible, caves.

Not bad for EUR 7 each.

Gil Eanes

by NunoF

Portuguese navigator, shield-bearer of Prince Henry, Gil Eanes was the first to sail beyond Cape Bojador, clearing the superstitious terror inspired by this promontory, thus giving birth to the era of the great Discoveries (1434).

Welcome to LAGOS

by Leipzig

Lagos is a historical coastal town in the Algarve. It was two sailor who made this town popular. Henry the Navigator developed caravels here, built them and sent them out to discover the world. Vasco da Gama started here in 1499 on his historic discovery voyage.
The town was founded by the Romans but was conquered by different armies over the centuries. All of the cultures left parts of their culture in Lagos. It was the capital of the Algarve from 1578 until 1756.
