Church Of Santa Maria by Balam
Built in the 16th Centuary it became the Parish church of Lagos in the Mid 18th c as the old Parish church was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake.It is from these windows that Dom Sebastiao, the young King of Portugal is said to have roused his troops before the ill-fated Moroccan expedition of 1578 from which the King (and most of his troops) never returned.
