Lagos Walls
by acilina
This is one door in the city walls. Inside is the old historical town, outside is the modern Lagos and the large amount of beaches around the city. Built under kings Manuel I and João III (16th century) on former building sites, these walls surrounded the whole city. Apart from the section overlooking the sea, there are still other pieces, with defense bastions, on the inside area of the city. On one wall is the famous Manuelino-style window from where king D. Sebastião is said to have attended an open-air celebration of Mass before leaving for Alcácer-Quibir.
AVOID!
by Westbrook about Taberna de Lagos
Look, atmosphere, wine and ambience: great.
There though, the good things stopped.
We were seated in seconds, but then neglected for over 10 minutes. The menu looked OK.
We ordered two different fish dishes. Both uninspired to the pont of blandness. It seemed as though the chef might have known this: both dishes were so heavily salted, they were close to inedible.
Couldn't wait to leave.
We learned later that they'd only recently opened. They need to get their act together. This was one of the most charming eateries we found in Lagos. It woudl be a shame if they never managed to be more than skin deep. The wine. The best Verde we tried.
The grottos

If this is your first visit to Lagos, you simply must take a "grotto tour". Step into a small fishing boat, let your local fisherman be your guide, and witness from the water, the distinctive and magnificent cliffs that surround the Lagos area. It is truly a sight unseen! Your guide will navigate around and under the intriguing rock formations, take you into caves and point out the many secluded beaches that surround the town.
You can take the grotto tour by signing-up with one of the vendors along marble sidewalk in front of town. Alternatively, catch a boat at Praia Dona Ana or at Ponte da Piedad. This tour offers a little variety to your beach day. The fisherman bring the boats right to the beach, and you can generally get a good rate here
Approximately €10 to €20 per person, based on your starting point.

Lagos: Nightlife, beaches and friends

"Lagos: Nightlife, beaches and friends"
Lagos: what to sayabout Lagos? It's simply one of those few places in Algarve not ruined by wild construction!
It's center is really small and live, i suggest to come and to live its nightlife full of people resturants and pub, fun, crowd and so on!
Most of the peole come from Great Britain so you can find typical british amusements.
The best places you shan't miss are just within 20 meters far from each other. The first one is in the middle of the road, the "Bon Vivand" 3 floors an from the top you'll have a nice view of the main pedonal road extremely crowded. The other one is the Eddie's pub with loud music and crazy cocktails, happy hour and so on. The third one I can't remember the name but it's just in fron of eddie's!
Between this bar and bon Vivant there's a really narrow street with many exceptional good seefood resturants.
Lagos beach is very wide but ever very crowded, nice to be tried but why don't take the chance and follow the old algarvian road, less busy, leads inside typical and well conserved cosy villages and hidden beaches (a lot of those with many naturists!!!!)
