Almond trees
by acilina
I'm going to show you some aspects of Algarve life, that tourists generally don't see...
It's in February that the almonds trees are all coverd with little white flowers. The legend says that in old times a mourish king married a princess from the north of Europe. After some time the princess was homesick
because she would like to see the snow. As in Algarve doesn't snow, the king order a large plantation of almond trees that, in winter, turned the land white with its flowers...
Market

There are all sorts of street vendors that seem to be especially commonplace in beach towns but Lagos is also home to a lovely market. I don't think it has a specific name, perhaps only referred to as 'mercado'. It is mainly a fish market. There is also a lovely selection of vegetables and fruit (I had some wonderful figs!). There is also nuts and olives to purchase for snacking, as well as spices (such as piri piri spice). Nice place to just browse for a bit if you can resist the produce!
Take the little tourist train.

like many other tourist towns, Lagos has a little tourist train running and i think it´s quite good to do a trip with it if you only have a day in Lagos as it passes most of the interesting spots in Lagos and also stops at the Ponte da Piedade.
It´s a good alternative if you don´t want to take one of the many boat trips.
