More about Hilton Vilamoura As Cascatas Golf Resort & Spa
Stunning apartment, lovely staff, 5 star
My wife and I stayed at the As Cascatas apartment complex in Jun ’08 with our 13 month old son. Rather than staying in a hotel room and keep banging into the travel cot, we opted to stay in an apartment, even though there is no room service! We stayed in a 2 bed apartment that could actually sleep 6 (sofa bed)– it contained an en-suite master double, a large second double, two further bathrooms, a lounge, kitchen and large hall way – enough for our son to crawl around all day! The apartment is finished to such a high spec and is so clean we thought we were the first to stay there since the complex opened in August ’07, but were told that this apartment has been available since it beginning.
The granite topped kitchen is fully loaded will all mod cons and utensils, the lounge has a dining room table and chairs and large plasmas (as well as being in each bedroom too). Each room has individual air conditioning and built in music. We also asked in advance to have a ground floor apartment and ended up with our own private garden, so we’d nip through the bushes and be right by one of the five Hilton pools.
All the staff at both the apartment complex and the Hilton was wonderful, and always very happy to help. There was never a feeling of “us” (apartment people) and “them” (Hilton people), and the whole Hilton/apartment complex was very clean, very safe (security garden constantly patrolling the grounds). The only downside about self catering is that on the nights we couldn’t be bothered cooking, the Hilton prices are very high – it is a five star resort and the prices reflect this.
We didn’t spend any time by the apartment pool, even though it is lovely, because the children’s pool doesn’t have shade, unlike the Hiltons. Because the complex is so new there are still a number of empty apartments for sale and the staff told me that they are going to improve the disabled and parent-and-buggy access as it is awful, as we found out everywhere we went in vilamoura and the Algarve. No pavements have dropped curbs and lifting up the buggy every time we crossed the road got annoying.
I’d recommend having a car as it is a 15 minute walk to the nearest Alisuper market, and at least a 25 minute walk down a duel carriageway to the marina. So to sum up on the positives, the apartment was spotless, relaxing and luxurious, the staff very polite, friendly and helpful, but the Hilton prices are very high and you certainly need to have a car to get around.
Stayed here for a long weekend with my partner who had some hilton [ponts to use. This hotel is fantastic. From the moment we arrived the staff were excellent, welcoming and very professional.
Room was amazing, large, beautifully decorated, bathroom out of this world.
Went down to the pool for the afternoon. Because of time of year, very quiet, luxurious sun loungers, towels and blow up cushion with bar snack menu printed on. Drinks very expensive but when you stay in such a high standard hotel, this is to be expected.
Breakfast was WOW!!! Even the fussiest of eaters would find something that would take their fancy.
The spa was like nothing I had experienced before. The lighting, treatments, out of this world.
Taxi into vilamoura took about 5 mins. Great restaurants, have a go at cataplana, (if you like fish). Speciality and it really is special.
Would recommend this hotel to everybody, if you can afford it. I couldnt, but partner could. Felt id died and gone to heaven.
Stunning bathrooms, superb hotel. Loved the Hilton!
This hotel had literally just opened when we arrived, yet there were no signs of any teething problems. The staff went out of their way to help us in any way they could and even upgraded two members of our party to suites, which they let us keep right up to 17:00 for no extra cost.
The rooms were a pleasure to behold, tastefully furnished with a glass bathroom complete with supersized bath. As a seasoned traveller, i have very high expectations and this more than met every single one of them. Lazing in my bath after a hard days work felt like utter luxury.
Sadly as i was over there with work i had no time to experience the facilities, but i can say that the pool looked most appealing and the food in the restaurant was superb as was the service.
In all, although the location of this hotel is a little out of town, i have had the misfortune of experiencing the other five star hotels in the center of Villamoura and i can honestly say, none of them live up to the standards of the Hilton. I would go back there in a flash, in fact i'm already planning my next trip!
Nice Hotel Shame About The Groupd Of Loud Young People
Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights .The rooms are wonderful breakfast is first rate chef is first class not as some other reviews said slow this was not the case .Dinner at the hotel is to pricey i know you need a car but the Marina is the best bet.The garden and pool areas are very nice in total there are 6 pools, the only problem is the stone surrounds looks like Fred Flintstone house fake concrete. In all this hotel is a 4 star wanting to be a 5 star.
Booked into Hilton for three nights with family. From arriving at reception to leaving the service was absolutely 5*. The facilities are amazing with a range of pools to suit all and the incredible spa.
The Hilton breakfast's are legendary and set you up for the day.
A small moan! The menu at the pool restaurant is the same as the bar menu, which gets a little boring after a while.
The staff are a credit. I single out Sonia who with her infectious smile makes your stay problem free and enjoyable.
Keep up the good work!!
P.S. Check out Frankie's bar just behind the complex for good company and home made food!
I must admit that the first impression this hotel gives is "over-the-top Vegas,", right down to the Flintstones-inspired pool and buffet meals. But it's actually the spa that is so inspiring! Never would I have believed the amenities offered here, right down to a "walk through" shower experience complete with birds chirping. My advice - make plenty of time to be totally swept away by this world class spa.
Nicely appointed apartment; staff very nice & accommodating
We are Hilton Grand Vacation Club members and this is one of their properties. We had a two-bedroom unit for a week and found it well appointed and comfortable. However, housekeeping was spotty and four times we had to call for items that were not replaced after the room was cleaned, like towels, soap, & toilet paper, none of which you want to discover missing at the moment they are needed. The patios/balconies are small and there is a table with only two chairs for a two bedroom apartment. We called and asked for two additional chairs since there were four adults in our unit, and they were gladly delivered but I have to think we should not have had to ask. Also, the air conditioning was ineffective making the nights hot & stuffy, and difficult for sleeping. There is no store onsight as there is with other HGVC properties so everything you might want for the week must be bought off-site, such as salt & pepper & coffee filters and that adventure requires a car. The weather was not such that we wanted to spend time on the beach or by the pool and we found the restaurants to be overpriced. We did enjoy the property, and the staff were very accommodating, but I am not sure I would return.
Spoilt for choice
We visited the hotel in early June – almost one year to the day after it opened.
We decided to stay at the hotel after receiving a special invitation offer from Hilton Grand Vacation Club for 3 nights at Euro 98 per night including a rental car, so value for money was outstanding.
The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the check-in staff to the lady who cleaned the room and kindly found some extra tea-bags when we ran out (and in fact it appeared the entire hotel had almost run out).
The service was magnificent – it was my birthday while we were there and the check-in staff and the guest relations manager noticed immediately and promised a ‘surprise’, which was a bottle of chilled Pommery and a sumptuous chocolate cake with candles in our room when we returned for an afternoon excursion accompanied by a personally signed note from the hotel general manager. Now that’s what I call service!
We had a room on the 4th (top) floor looking out over the main pool (there are 6 of them), a good location especially in the evening when the pools and rock-scape was lit up nicely. The hotel landscapers have gone overboard with the boulders – but perhaps the balance will improve once the gardens become more fully established.
The room itself was well-appointed, comfortable and quiet.
Location-wise, the hotel is pretty isolated and while the hotel offered a shuttle bus, having the rental car was extremely valuable for easily getting to and from Vilamoura Marina, where the entertainment and dining options are.
We tried all the restaurants at the hotel and liked them all. The quality of the food in the fine-dining restaurant for an evening meal was great (but pricey) although sometimes we felt that the staff were a bit too clingy. The buffet breakfast was great both in terms of the variety on offer and being able to enjoy it outside on the terrace overlooking the pools.
In terms of day-time entertainment options, we did not use the spa next to the hotel (although we received 10% discount vouchers every day from the enthusiastic spa staff who circulated the hotel) or the golf courses on either side, preferring instead just to relax by or in the pool enjoying the glorious sunshine.
The only detraction with the main pool was the deck-chair usage - the old trick of claiming a deckchair for the whole day by simply placing a towel on it was rife and meant it was extremely difficult to find a spot by the pool later in the day. We wished the hotel would adopt the practice of some other hotels and simply remove towels from deck-chairs un-occupied for a lengthy period of time.
The hotel seems to be popular with English-speaking families with small children.
All-in-all we had a very satisfactory stay and thought it was fantastic value for money. Not sure if we would stay again at regular prices though – not because we were unhappy but simply because we know of other excellent places in the area that also offer excellent value for money.
In the Algarve you really are spoilt for choice.
Fanatstic kid's club and pools
The staff were friendly from the start.
Our 9 year old daughter loved the Kid's Club: Both the activities and the staff. Good security and great equipment.
The pools were quiet and clean with lots of space. And with 6 there's a great choice.
Only £3.00 in a cab to the marina which is very pleasant if pricy, although not as dear as the hotel (you get what you pay for)!
Great breakfast but the evening buffet wasn't worth Euro39.
Rooms were clean and well appointed (great bath and shower) if a little small.
I stayed at this hotel with my family in June 2008.
It's wonderful. New, Clean and Tiday, Excellent Staff Helpfulness and Friendliness.
I would recommend a car as it's a good 15-20 minutes walk to the marina.
This hotel knocks spots off all other Vilamoura hotels, it's certainly worth paying the extra.
Breakfast is superb, with plenty of choice, and eggs any which way you'd like them. If you're going to eat in the hotel restarant of an evening it's quite expensive, you're best going to the marina where there is a wealth of restaurants.
Excellent for a break with your partner, spouse, and young family, but not much for teenagers, albeit there is a teenager pool. Use of balls and lilo's is not allowed, and there is nowhere within the grounds to play ball, apart from the kids club but that is only for the under 12's.

Hilton Vilamoura As Cascatas Golf Resort & Spa
I was wondering if anyone can give me some information about this hotel...is the location close to a town and beach? Are there alternative hotels I should look at at the same standard in the algarve?
Thanks for your help!!!
Re: Hilton Vilamoura As Cascatas Golf Resort & Spa
Take a look at this map
It's over 2 miles from the beaches, marina etc at Vilamoura. It's really a golf resort and thus out of town. They wax a bit lyrical on another page:
I'd take a look at the Sheraton Algarve (http://www.sheraton-algarve.com/) maybe, if it's not golf you are going for. At least that one's above the beach, at Praia da Falesia! It's actually not far from Vilamoura, about 2 miles along the beach but there are no roads - just sand!
And there's a 9 hole clifftop golf course attached.
(Don't these hotel groups witter on so about their marvellous range of facilities!)
Hope that helps.
