More about Hotel Jupiter
Nice hotel but make sure you book a room with a balcony
My partner and I have just spent a pleasant 2 weeks at the hotel Jupiter. Our room was very spacious and was kept exceptionally clean. We had a very nicely sized balcony which was very private. We did notice though that there were a lot of rooms without balconies that looked much smaller and had views of a flat roof.
The only down side to our location was that there is currently major road works going on outside the hotel and each morning you didn't have a lot of choice but to clamber over various bits of rubble to get to the beach or other destination. Also a couple of evenings the road works went on well into the early hours of the morning!
We found several lovely places to eat (presentation of food seems to be of particular importance in the resort) and would definately recommend - La Dolce Vita Pizzeria (try the Marinara pizza); Sitting Bull Restaurant ( melt in the mouth Cimmichanga, but make sure you are really hungry as its a well sized portion!!); Castelinha (situated on the beach and do lovely salads)and Safari restaurant where you most definately will want to sample the absolutely gorgeous homemade and authentic lamb stew.
whilst there we also enjoyed having a little flutter in the casino which was good fun and whet our appetite for our holiday to Las Vegas next year!
if you go on the short but pleasant walk to Portemao be sure to glance up to the top of the large chimney that you pass along the way as you will be delighted to witness the 4 storks building their nest.
On a down side we would not recommend the dolphin safari where if you go along to book (the marina in prai da rocha) you will be given a lot of blah about what you will see out at sea and that yesterdays boat trips definately saw blah blah & blah. The reality is a very bumpy 2 - 3 hour raft journey (the only thing we saw were 3 plastic cartons!!) which results in you walking with a John Wayne gait for several days afterwards!!!
Keep going back for more
We loved this holiday and have been back since our first visit.
The hotel is spotless, and the staff are great. This hotel is definately worth a visit, it is also central in Praia da Rocha, and all bookings for trips etc can be made here. There is entertainment everynight by the pool and a lot of the locals come here to dance the night away.
The beach is amazing. The food is excellent. I would certainly recommend this for a holiday.
Cant wait to go back again.
Hotel central location, only minutes to beach. Stayed on B/B basis, breakfast just okay. Buffet style, variety never changed in the week, could be improved with better selection in both hot and continental dishes. Hotel very clean and rooms spacious. Found bar staff to be the friendliest and most helpful. Hotel provided entertainment but it was the same every night and very repetative, the locals use this facility at weekends and would think this could be a problem in high season. Did have an issue with sunbeds - towels placed on beds very early in the morning. On one occasion had gone to the pool and towels on beds but no one using them - spoke to hotel staff who did apologise and removed the towels. Major work being carried out (due to finish end May) and it was difficult to walk about, but when completed it will make a vast difference. Found an excellent restaurant, O Barao, (turn right at Red Lion bar) steaks to die for, very good value.
Overall a most enjoyable stay, would have been even better if Hotel improve the breakfast
holiday from hell
We have just returned from a week at the hatel jupiter,it was a holiday from hell.the whole resort of praia da rocha is dug up and one big building site.there is building work opposite the hotel that starts at 7.30am till 8pm.from the pool and hotel room all you can hear is hammaring, drilling and diggers and jcb`s.the dust covers you around the pool area and the main strip is an obsticle corse of exposed drain covers, deep holes ,tools, and workmen ,they are even still working at 10.30 pm,whatch out for the diggers that time of night as they don`t stop for nobody.there is also work going on in the ajasent building and in the hotel.
the food was terrable, cheap streaky bacon and tinned hot dog sausages, and bullets for beans, the evening meal is a set menu not buffet and you have a choice of 3,but to understand what is on the menu is a joke,we asked fot the beef stew one night and got turkey, florida salad was lettice one tiny prawn with cream over the top,and the soup had a new name everyday but it was the same soup and the waiters were so slow and our food was cold when we got it,we ate out for 4 nights after walking out of the resturant in discust.
the only goodthing was the rooms are very clean and the beds are comfy, clean towels every day ,bed linen changed once a week, and you have free use of the fridge for your own water ect,the wardrobe is to narrow for the coat hangers and the sliding doors get jamed.
I love the algarve and will return but not to this hotel or resort.
not on this planet
Having just returned from a weeks holiday there here is my review:
Not a 4 star hotel, on day one of our holiday we were given a room on the first floor of this hotel which had a lage window completed covered with a large metal dusty and dirty shutter which was unopenable so therefore no daylight entered the room. It reminded me of prison cell block H and was so dark in the daytime I couldn't even find the card holder to turn on the electricity.
After complaining we were told that that was the only room available to us that night and to come back tomorrow after breakfast and they would see if they could move us.
We propmtly did this the next day and we're moved to a second floor room without a shutter. This room was only marginally better as the roadworks outside went on from early morning till late in the night. And the batteries from the remote control for the air con had long since lost the will to live.
Breakfasts consisted of tinned hot dog sausages and stringy bacon which was topped up only if and when the hotel staff felt like it.
Overall not a good hotel and we wouldn't stay there again.
unhelpful and rude staff
Just returned from holiday at the Jupiter Hotel.First impression was very good, nice clean room. It would of been impossible to get a sunbed, but we were happy to go to the gorgeous beach. Breakfast could of been better, but we are not the sort to complain. Resort was a bit of a building site and sometimes noisy but again we put up with it as these things have to be done. The problem happened on our last day, after vacating our room we asked if there was somewhere safe to leave our luggage,we were taken to a room and were told it was safe as it was kept locked or a member of staff would be in he room. When we returned to put some snacks in our hand luggage for the journey home a staff member was in the room, but when we came back to collect our luggage to go home we walked straight into the room as it was not locked, nor was there a staff member in their. Concerned that our luggage had been left i checked my bags only to find my digital camera missing. We reported it straight away to reception, which was not a bit bothered and just put their hands up as if to say tough, then carried on working and totally egnorned us, By this point we asked to speak to the hotel manager but was told she was not in, so a staff member came and said there is nothing we can do, you must go to the police station and report it, then claim on your insurance, we could not do this as our taxi was waiting to take us to the airport. we could not believe how rude and unhelpful they were.So BEWARE when you leave your luggage, the door is not kept locked!!! We would not recommend to anyone.
Wonderful beaches,very good location
Excellent hotel, lovely rooms -we got it with balcon with seaview-, absolutly clean. The location is very good. There are 2 problems. One is the building work on the roads next to the hotel and the other is the staff on waiting. I have read this before and it is very true: very unfriendly and not helpful at all, and cocky. HB is not worth of it. If we go back, next time we rather eat out. There are plenty cheap and fantastic places.
lovely location- want to go again
Just returned from a week at the Jupiter. the hotel is clean, tidy,no problems with staff who were helpful ,polite and greeted you with a smile- something which people sometimes find hard to do. The position is superb, with a lovely clean and very big sandy beach just across the street , which has watersports and an abundance of brilliant and very reasonably priced restaurants .Very good toilet facilities down at the beach as well. The only down side is that the beach is about 60 steps down ,which might be arkward for some. The sunbed and umbrello facilities on beach are very good.
The hotel was kept very clean ,with rooms cleaned every day,and breakfast was very suitable to UK guests, with a good selection of fruit , cereal, breads , cheese, ham and bacon eggs ,etc. for breakfast.
There is a down side though. The pool area is quite small and there are not enough sunbeds to cater for the guests- although the beach i found much better anyway. Also ,if you are a light sleeper, one side of the hotel (side with no balconies)gets a lot of noise at night from the nightlife which is on that particular street.
expected a little more from a 4* hotel
good clean hotel. very friendly and helpful staff. the rooms were a lot smaller than the photos suggested. they advertised a gym, but it did not open till 10am. it had one tread mill and two exercise cycles. i did not see anything else. a ten days stay, and i did not see anyone use the gym or the spa.
they advertise a coach tour company, paradise tours. a lot of their tours repeat destinations. eg. you can book a half day trip to silves and monchique. one day "historal algarve" trip also goes to silves and monchique, but this is not mentioned in the brochure.
Good location - But noisy
Stayed here for the week beginning 5th August. Booked a sea view room based on other reviews. Its a good location right on the beach/strip but found it very noisy. Would head for a snooze before heading out at night and they have live music from 8 or so, we just went out earlier to avoid it. Its a clean hotel, breakfast is fine, breads, meats, cheeses, fruit, youghurts, scrambled egg, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms all available buffet style. The pool is tiny!
Our friends had tried to book here to come with us and it was booked up they ended up booking the Hotel Algarve Casino, they only paid 140 more than us the the difference was immense! Pay the extra and stay at the Algarve Casino, it was fab, the pool is very large, saltwater, its all decked around overlooking the beach. They also have a clean towel service. The jupiter did the job but for what we paid I would have rathered pay a little more and go for the Algarve casino, its litterally a 50 metres from the Jupiter so still in the heart of things.
For trips would highly recommend the Zoo Marine, the dolphin show was fab! Avoid Splas and Slide we got 3 slides done in 2 hours due to the queues and rang a taxi to go home! The taxi man said to avoid it during august as its just crazy.
