We are coming back every year to Portugal, particularly to Cabanas de Tavira. It is quite, friendly, you feel like at home in your family. Lots of cats and dogs. People are simple, open, easy, and different from urbanized cities. We enjoy bicycling, golf – very close located and very nice, swimming in the summer (you pass the channel by boat in 3 min.), good and simple food.
where can I stay out of season in Tavira that will not cost an arm and a leg? Are there any Yorkshire people living there? What sort of price is property?

I really enjoyed my stay in Tavira - can't recall meeting any Yorkshire folk though !

Am now considering next year's holidays so need some personal tips
I have scanned the net but what it doesn't tell me is what I can gain from VT.
Would like to know of any smallish resorts around 40km from Faro airport.
I say smallish,that is something that is alive but not too big to get completely overwhelmed.
So personal recommendations gratefully accepted,also any agencies/companies who rent apartments.
I know many sites advertise but would appreciate thoughts from those of you who have actually been there,done it and have the T-shirt.:-))
Try looking at Cabanas de Tavira, 35km from airport. The beach is on an island with little ferries to take you over from town. Nice small town, still a it of a fishing port with a quiet buzz to it.
A similar distance in the other direction is Olhos D'Agua, which many people like. It is in effect a suburb of Albufeira but big enough to have its own identity, plenty of places to eat and drink etc and a small but perfectly formed beach.

Depends what you want out of your holiday - if it's beach and bars then there are various options. For a resort used by the Portuguese try Fuseta (East Algarve) or Olhao (my hometown). The homelidays.co.uk website is also a good source of rental options.
We stayed at the Vale do Lobo. It's main thing is sport, but we just used it as a nice base for site seeing. Very attractive setting and the villa we rented was terrific.

Q: Bus Travel in Travira town. "Will be on holiday in Travira without a car, is it easy to get in from the outskirts eg Dr Roao Nunes Road. by local bus or do you..."
A: "There is a local minibus service around town but I don't have all the details to hand. It runs weekdays from about 7am to 7pm and there are a few buses on Saturday..."
