Don't forget to look up!
by averageyorkshirejoe
When walking around don't forget to look up once in a while or you might miss some of the amazing tiled pictures and unusual architecture. Some of the buildings even have an old west type feel to them especially some of the derelict ones, it feeels like stepping back in time. The door handles are quirky too, like two lilttle hands.
Four waters Roofs
by Carmela71
These roofs are very distinctive of Tavira, Each of the rooms has its own roof, so each house can have more than 3 or 4 little roofs. It is said that it may come from China. Portuguese were sailing people that may have brought it on that times. I have to say I had never seen before.
Boomerang!
by xicomelo
As the Tavira Island is so huge for so many people, you have the beach for your own. So, why don't you take a boomerang with you to have fun? It's a good choice if you know how to manage it. Otherway, you'll do like me: send the boomerang and it doesn't come back again, so I have to run and bring it again :-) Boomerang.
Excursion 1: From Tavira to Castro Marin
by Carmela71
From Tavira take the old road EN125 in direction to Villa Real de San Antonio (VRS to Antonio as you will find on the signs), you will pass through some little villages that may deserve your attention, we try always to look for the brown signs that indicate a tourist point ;-)
Once we arrived to Vila Real we stopped for a photography of the other side of the Guadiana, yes the Spanish side, I though you could see better, but well it was not bad.
The best was the quick stop on one side of the road to see the Salinas just outside the city in direction to Castro Marim, there were a few flamingos.
You do not have to pay to enter at the castle of Castro Marim, but as usual in most of the Algarve castles, you can only see the walls. The problems is to get there. If oyu follow the road signs and drive a normal car you better have the car full insurance! We are lucky to go with a 4x4, better leave the car down and walk up.
Sailing around the Tavira Bay
by Toshioohsako
Its a very nice experience to start sailing through the canal in Tavira. The seacoast is natural and unspoiled. Many interesting birds are actively flying and finding fish to eat. One bird, a relatively, small one, when they find a fish, they abruptly plunge into the sea as if it were committing a suicide, or a jet fighter find an enemy tank. Its amusing to observe many birds - singing, plunging, flying high and standing on a little rock. The sea breeze is pleasant and you have serenity and peace.
