Aveiro is a paradise for those who enjoy photography. Each time I visit Aveiro I always bring home lots of photos. My favourite spots to shoot while in Aveiro are:
- the Canal Central: boats and houses reflect on the channel’s water, providing wonderful reflections;
- Art Nouveaux houses: if you enjoy shooting details and enjoy this architectural style … well, what else may I say?
- Costa Nova: the typical houses make major opportunities for photos; don’t miss their graphic patterns;
- Costa Nova: the beautiful beaches, mainly by the end of the day with warm and saturated colours and also the sunsets on the sea, of course;
- Lighthouse: this is a favourite of mine, as I enjoy shooting lighthouses and this one is very nice.
There is another place I’d recommend to shoot while in Aveiro, although I have never been there yet: the football stadium. This stadium was built for the European Championship (Euro 2004) and it is very colourful. I’ve seen fantastic photos of graphic patterns shoot here, and I’m sure I won’t miss it next time I visit Aveiro.
For some examples of photos shoot at the fore mentioned places, check the album “My favourite locations to shoot in Aveiro”.

In candies the traditional receipts of the old convents of the region are followed: “raivas”, “fios de ovos” (egg wires), “castanhas de ovos” (egg chestnuts), “bolos de vinte e quarto horas” (cakes of twenty four hours) and... “Ovos moles” (soft eggs) dessert of the desserts synonymous of Aveiro.
Universidade de Aveiro
by global84
Founded in 1973, Universidade de Aveiro is one of the foremost universities in Portugal in science and technology fields. Its wide campus is located in the southwestern part of the city, a little far away to walk from Praça Humerto Delgado. Not just an academic institution like any other universities in the country, it is also the showcase of some top-level examples of Portugal's modern architecture. Each faculty building was built by the Portuguese architects such as Alcino Soutinho and Manuel Aires Mateus, and the spaces between each building are nice parks and gardens, giving the university students some green space to take a break or walk around. The students on campus will wave their hands at you while the bus is going around the campus.
(P.S.) I took the pictures from the moving bus, so they are not really well-proportioned. Please be fair with it!
Cojo Channel

This channel, goes from city center to the Congress Hall. Along the margins, are the Market Square, Forum Aveiro (Shopping Center) and the Congress Hall.
A walk along the channel is very pleasant...
Câmara Municipal

Most people who come to Aveiro enjoy the canals and the northern part of Canal Central. Despite promixity, not many people take a walk to the city hall, Câmara Municipal, located on the pedestrianized street of Rua Coimbra. The city hall is on Praça da República, where the statue of the civil revolution hero, João Magalhães, is located in its center. The city hall building, built in 1797, is in the typical Portuguese style, with dark pink roofs with light pink surface. Right around the square is Igreja da Misericódia, whose façade is ornated with blue-and-white azulejo panels. The building right across the main city hall is where Aveiro Digital is located, a free, city government-owned Internet station.
