Baroque Route

Following the Baroque Route is one of the possibilities to explore Braga’s historic centre. As the name says, you will mainly visit buildings of the mentioned period. Baroque style has some fine examples in Braga, as is the case of the Cathedral.
I have visited Braga more than once, and this is my favourite Route. Not that I am not interested in Roman Ruins (the other possible route) but in the case of Braga I find the Baroque Route “richer” and more interesting to visit.
The prime example of sustainable progress

It's only now that we are told about greenhouse effects and climate changes blah blah blah. Well, the guys taht designed the lift that takes you to the BomJesus sanctuary thought of that and decided to make a funicular that not only never runs out of power as it is totally environment friendly. Basically the two carts are tied to each other by a strong iron rope that goes around a giant wheel. The upper cart is then filled with water while the lower empties its cargo. The difference in wieghts creates a motion in that the upper cart brings tha lower cart up. No petrol, no electrocity, no coal. Clean as water. And very nice landscapes as well. Over 200 years old you are a fool if you go to Braga and miss it.
Inside the Cathedral

Inside the Cathedral you will find a wonderfull pipe organ. I was so taken aback at its sight - beautiful color, impressive carvings underneath and above all it looks so majestic, so out of this world.
I read in guidebook that this organ has 2400 pipes, some of them emerged into water and its sound is often compared to those of nightingales. And sometimes (i guess very special occasions) this organ still plays.
Ceiling is also very beautifully painted, some strong colors, please don't forget to look up, since the pipe organ i mentioned is also "up", above a kind of balcony.
