Travelling by bus from Guimaraes to Santiago de compostela

by epng

I'm trying to find a way to travel by bus from Guimaraes, Portugal, to Santiago de compostela, Spain. I've tried searching the webpages of Eva, Rede and rodonorte bus companies, but found there's no direct bus from guimaraes to santiago de compostela. Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot!

Re: Travelling by bus from Guimaraes to Santiago de compostela

by Redang doesn't link Santiago and Guimaraes, but there are buses from Braga (it's close) or Porto, Viana do Castelo, it's not the same, I know, but in case you don't find a straight bus line.

I see, does ALSA have buses from Braga out to Santiago then? Or is it by another bus company? When I checked the ALSA website, i found that there're buses from santiago to Braga, but there were no bus routes from Braga to Santiago. Thanks again.

Travel Tips for Guimarães

Rua de Santa Maria

The Rua de Santa Maria was first mentioned in documents dating back to the 12th century, therefore it is one of the first streets of Guimaraes.

Typical for the houses at Rua Santa Maria are the narrow balconies and grey granite window sills.

The Rua de Santa Maria leads from the castle in the upper town down to the convent in the heart of the historic city centre.

The king

by AndyRG

Dom Afonso Henriques was born here in the 12th century, he was the first king of Portugal. His statue is outside the nice castle of the city. Afonso is said to be baptized in the font of the chapel of Sao Miguel.

Guimarães is situated on the northwest of Portugal, in the District of Braga. It is situated about 55km from Porto (Portugal’s second main city, usually referred to as the Capital of the North) and about 365km from Lisbon. Also, from Braga the capital city of this District is just a short travel of 20km.

Estadio D. Afonso Henriques

The Estadio D. Afonso Henriques is home to the local football club Vitoria Guimaraes.

The stadium was built in 1930, but was massively renovated in 2003 just before the Euro 2004 which was held in Portugal. It hosted two group matches during the Euro 2004.

The current capacity of the stadium is 30.165. Unfortunately it is a very modern stadium, so I didn't find a chance to get into the stadium during my visit.

This immense structure was built by the Duke of Braganca in the XV century. Entry costs about E3. You can see fine tapestries and medieval furniture, as well as wonder why this guy needed so many rooms... Ceilings are immensely tall, the tallest you are likely to see anywhere outside of cathedrals or stadiums. The chapelle is particularly nice; it has fine glass and marble pillars taken out of the Moorish palace in Ceuta.
