pousada de juventude/youth hostel: crazy lady but okay hostel

Very new modern youth hostel with 2 bed with ensuite rooms, 4-bed dorms and a 6 bed family room. apparently there are even some rooms with own kitchen. A bar, laundry and 24 hour opening.
our room was very nice and clean, including the ensuite we had.

the only trouble is we had a lot of trouble understanding that what the woman behind the desk was telling us was correct!
we had aimed for the youth hostel and phoned her along the way to check rooms were available, with the aim of the effectiveness on the budget that youth hostels usually have.

When booking in, after the bizarre focus she seemd to have on whether we had stayed in youth hostels in portugal before over and over, we couldnt understand after being told that to stay there it cost 11.50 euro each person but we had options of staying 3 of us (2 female friends and one Dad) in a 4 bed dorm with which we would have to pay for the 4th bed. making it 16.50 euro a person. and with only the communal showers and toilets outside. making it obviously cheaper per person to take a twin room with ensuite at 32 euro for two.
the trouble was that Dad on his own for some reason couldnt pay 11.50 euro for a dorm bed because he would still have to pay for each bed iin the dorm!!!
so he had to take a twin room without the ensuite as it was the cheapest deal!! so he paid 26 euro!! for youth hostel accommodation.
so we all paid 20 euro each.

Unique Quality: the place was new and clean and warm. the twin rooms with ensuite and tv at 32 euro is a good price. if the price we had to pay is correct we wouldnt stay there if we were travelling with say 3 people again.
we had none of the nice view of the town or the castle that the town is famous for. the views were over industrial sites and ugly buildings.
the onsite internet was expensive and to use wireless would cost 20 euro to join up.
breakfast was included but , as we consistently found in other youth hostels around portugal, the coffee was wierd - or tasted like made with ashphalt powder!- and the 'juice' was partictularly horrible tasting cordial something, the bread was absolutely excellent though!
