Monsanto
The granite village of Monsanto is a short drive to the north-east of Castelo Branco. Squeezed up against a slope on an extremely steep hill below a square-built fortress, Monsanto was voted Portugal's 'most typical village' in 1938.

Hagit

im also tryin to get to boom festival, do you know the name of the train station in Idanha – a – Nova it seems impossible to find out.

theres no train station at idanha a nova, you have to get a train/bus to castelo branco and then a bus from there to idanha a nova. You then walk the rest of the way into the nature reserve to reach Boom (yay Boom!)
cant seem to find timetables for the bus service from castelo to idanha however, can anyone help?

Castelo Branco was refounded by the Templars in the 13th century. In 1214, when Pedro Alvites was master of the Templars in Portugal, Afonso II granted them the lands of Cardosa, thus laying the foundation for what is now the city of Castelo Branco. Occupying a low hill at the centre of flat lands just 18 km from the Spanish frontier, it has been known for its embroidered colchas or bed-spreads since the late 1800s, a fine range of which can be seen in the local museum. With its broad avenues, large squares and a pleasant air of prosperity, the town is a very good base from where we can explore the border region of Central Portugal.
