Residencial Imperio: Residencial Imperio, decent place to stay

A small two story hotel, just off the main street. This is a bare bones hotel, a simple room with standing closet and not too new bed...but two important things, it was clean and the bed, even though it looked rickety, was comfortable. It was also a very reasonable rate at 35 Euro, including breakfast, when compared to other hotels.

Unique Quality: Close and within walking distance of the Jardim Episcopal (which is the reason we had come to Castelo Branco in the first place).

The breakfast was a contentintal breakfast, just a few things, but enough to get you going in the morning along with several cups of coffee.

PENSÃO RESIDENCIAL HORTA D'ALVA: WHITER THAN WHITE

Castelo Branco is a place to stop in any North to South journey of Portugal. After a long day of driving I came upon this white Pension with another white building inside some white walls which surround their parking area. The night desk man didn’t speak a word of any language except Portuguese and could not have been nicer. A short thumb through my guidebook phrases and he had sorted out a good price of 36 Euros after showing me – you guessed it – a white room in the other white building.

My room was very large, had 2 firm beds, white sheets, a million white towels and everything was white except the satellite TV. I had 2 remote controls, one for the white air-conditioning unit. The bathroom was huge and had plenty of hot water and great water pressure. A really welcome blast in the morning. Every single surface in both buildings had fresh white paint and was remarkably clean. Other than a good hospital I have never seen an accommodation this crisp and clean.

Breakfast (included) had plenty of fruit, bread, meats, cheese and coffee. I even took some oranges along with me for the next mornings drive.

This is a great place for a quiet and cheap sleep. If you want a late drink there are 2 good cafés across the street and a proper bar/nightclub 2 blocks away.

Unique Quality:
* Clean
* Great breakfast
* Free parking
* 24-hour security
* Quiet
* Large rooms with air-conditioning & satellite TV
* Well priced
* Friendly night staff
