More about Madeira Regency Cliff Hotel Funchal
Loved the Regency Cliff
We spent (my husband and I) at Regency Cliff hotel one week 2.4-9.4.2007. We really loved that hotel. Hotel is quite small, our room was spacious, we had wonderful sea view to the Atlantic Ocean. Hotel/room were clean, staff friendly. It was very quiet hotel, we heard nothing inside or outside the hotel during nighttime - so, we slept very well. There were no discos, night clubs etc nearby, or at least we did not noticed. Breakfast was allways very good, fresh.
My husband had his 40th birthday during our holiday there, and hotel gave him a little blue-white birthday cake...Finland flag is blue.white...so, we sat in our balcony, made coffee and ate that cake and saw the Ocean "under our feet"
There is really good shopping center (200-300 m) near hotel and there are food restaurants, cinema, very good food shop, laundry, cosmetic shop, book shop, sport shop etc.
We loved our holiday at Madeira and our hotel. This was our first time at Madeira ever but not the last. When we go back, we will absolutely go back to Regency Cliff !
To all people working at Regency Cliff - thank You for making our holiday perfect !

A cat in a sack
We have just returned from a weeks stay in the madeira regency cliff hotel; The island is magnificent, the variety of nature is stunning and the views are spectacular. You must rent a car and tour around the island. First surprise: the travel agent and the hotel's site make you believe that there are only cliffs between the hotel and the sea. Not true. When you look down from your hotel room (we had a room on the 5th floor) you see the municipal swimming pool of funchal where 400 children have fun from 9 am till 9 pm, so no sitting on the balcony and read a book f.e. The terrace outside where they serve breakfast and dinner is beautiful, the service is impeccable, but the food isn't, it is also very expensive for the quality you get.
The matresses are so hard, that you have a hurting back by day 3.
Best is to book an upgraded room, they are even more spacious and are mostly on the right side of the hotel - facing the sea and the city - and you have less noise of the playing kids.
The rest is really ok, it is a small hotel and that's nice. But book early, because when you book late they have the habit of upgrading you to their larger 5 star hotel with less charm & view.
Great View, Very Clean
Just returned from Madeira and a 10 night stay at the Regency Cliff Hotel. Very clean, contemporary decorated hotel in the Hotel area of Funchal. Breakfasts, buffet style, are included and what a great spot to enjoy them, out on the terrace restaurant overlooking the ocean and the cliffs. Had a great room with two balconies!
we would go back tomorrow
We have just returned from a week holiday in Madeira Island at Regency Cliff and all I can say is that we would go back tomorrow.
The hotel is beautiful, extremely clean and in a very tranquil setting. The room was great, spacious with a good balcony and nice bathroom.
Breakfast was also very good with a good variety of fruit, cereals and breads.
We were impressed with service provided and dedication of the staff, we look forward to visiting again.
Loved this hotel
The Regency Cliff in Funchal is just as you expect from the wonderful photos on the website. It is positioned above the sea so that wherever your room is you get a beautiful sea view, the pools are great, the main terrace is a wonderful place to sit and soak up the sun and the view. The modern style and size of the hotel make it feel special and not like all the other large anonymous hotels. The service is good and friendly and the food very enjoyable.
I would certainly happily return here - a note of caution though for those with limited mobility - Funchal is hilly - clearly being volcanic - this hotel does run a free shuttle bus but the strolls are fairly steep around the hotel and it may be a stretch too far for some. Having said that there were many older residents here who were quite happy with the shuttle bus and the mooching around the hotel itself.
In summary, a cracking hotel deserving of 4 stars.
Excellent hotel with great staff
We have just returned from our first ever visit to Madeira where we stayed at the Regency Cliff and we would go back tomorrow if we had the time.
The hotel is smallish and very tranquil, slightly out of Funchal centre, with a great team of staff who were always pleased to help
Room was good - plenty of space, everything worked and it was well maintained and serviced.
We only booked B&B but we took one of their evening meal packages and were very pleased with the table d'hote and a la carte menus. Breakfast was also very good.
The walk into Funchal is 20-25 minutes along the sea front promenade. The walk back is uphill for part of the way but the local buses are cheap and efficient and the taxis good value as well
Stylish, modern & wonderfully appointed
Having stayed for one week in March, we found it to be a wonderful hotel. The rooms are spacious, with private balconies, all facing the Ocean. Breakfast caters for every taste and is very New York in its presentation. Even during March you can eat on the terrace overlooking Funchal, a warm, wonderful start to the day. The staff a very helpful, however, a special mention for Louisa at the reception desk who never failed to help. As we never ate in the restaurant , preferring to visit local restaurants, I cannot give any comment . Of the restaurants we tried 'The Monumental' & the horribly named
'Moby Dick' were two of the best visited .(Avoid Granny Smiths, surly
staff & food to match)! The evening entertainment is gentle & low key. I cannot fault the hotel in anyway. As too seeing the island, we hired a car, an Automatic Smart Car, (why an automatic? you ask), wait till you see the Hills!! having toured the island, this was as much fun as you can have legally! If you can only take one trip, have lunch in the Valley of the Nuns ,in the heart of an extinct volcano. We would not hesitate to return to the hotel & the Island.
Top Quality 4 Star
Just spent a great week in this modern (2001) 4 Star hotel and unlike many this deserves the 4 stars. All rooms have a great sea view and are clean, well equipped air conditioned and comfortable. In particular the chamber maid services is great, they really clean and make the room nice.
Breakfast is the usual fare and the restaurant is good, but although the food looks great, overall the taste and cooking standard is un-inspiring. There are loads of restuarants nearby and also in the centre of Funchal, but again the quality is good but not great. For food, go to the old town beyond the Cable Car station.
Finally, Madeira must get the award for the best WCs on the planet. Every single facility, in every public place, restaurant, bar or museum, was without exeption of exemplary cleanliness. Top marks!
Front sea views are amazing. Reception desk staff are wellcoming, friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean, but common and not so big (upgraded corner rooms are better though - much bigger and have two balconies, one overlooking the ocean and the other with a great view of both the ocean and funchal). Food is not so great either. There are not so many options at the buffet whilst the a la carte menus have their ups and downs. Loved the terrace restaurant though, intimate cosy atmosphere and lovely views of the ocean and Funchal. Both outdoor pool and the indoor pool are pretty small, but not crowded at all (at least not in late august - early september). The hotel does not have its own beach, there is instead a "beach" (rather a concrete platform) that you can reach from the hotel with a bigger pool and a ocean water pool. From there you have direct access to the ocean as well, but that is only for good swimmers. In addition, if you go out of the beach area and return on the same day you will have to pay the entrance twice. The hotel is not amazing, but has fair rates for what it has to offer. Madeira however definitely worths a shot.
Fantastic view, friendly staff
Stayed there with our 5 months old son in May. The view from the backyard balcony is fantastic, it´s really a soothing moment to eat breakfast there. Staff was very friendly and helpful, food good. Our room was also big and comfort with baby bed included. The only minus comes from the location, it was very long way from the center of Funchal. Of course there is the hotel bus, but we liked to walk and the neighbourhood wasn´t so pretty with all the construction going on there.
