My husband and I are going to be in Porto for a week in early May 2011 and would love to do a personalised tour of some of the wineries in the countryside. Alternatively a 3-4 night cruise where we get to visit some wineries as well would be great. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I suppose you are looking for something like this www.cellartours.com/portugal/wine-tours/luxury-douro-valley-weekend.html, and for cruises www.douroazul.pt/English-108.aspx.
Look at the Oporto wine, Porto Virtual Tourist Travel Guide for tips on the wine tours as well as wine cruises. Copy and paste the VT webpage to search: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Portugal/Distrito_do_Porto/Porto-282453/Things_To_Do-Porto-Oporto_Wine-BR-1.html
You could just take the train to Reus and then walk to one of the many wineries there.
They will give you a tour if they are not busy, but if you book ahead then it is of course easier for them.
I have been on a couple of winery visits there and it's real good.
Thanks everyone for the answers - we have decided we will go and stay around Pinhao or Regua and do a few days by car - are the roads safe for us Aussies!
Toads are fine.
And sorry for writing Reus.
I meant Regua.
