From Evora to Monsaraz

by marlyj

Is it possible to make a day trip from Evora to Monsaraz? And if we arrived in Monsaraz without reservation in October, would we have trouble finding a room for two?

Thanks
A

Hi,

It is possible, if you travel by car. I don't know if there's any public transportation, ... According to www.viamichelin.com it's 35 miles.

Regarding the room, i can't answer you. I only visited Monsaraz for the day, never slept there. It is small and i should say that probably there aren't many places where to sleep.

Check these sites for some additional info:

Bye,

Hi,
You'll easily go from Evora to Monsaraz, but only by car. Staying there is another thing because i bellieve there aren't many places to stay. In alternative you can go back to Evora or stay in another big town, like Moura (not as touristic as Evora and cheaper). Monsaraz is worth a visit, see some images on my page.
Nice staying

Travel Tips for Monsaraz

Monsaraz

by micas_pt

Monsaraz is an enchanting white village enclosed within the castle’s walls, situated on top of a hill on the plains of Alentejo. Houses are small and charming, respecting typical architecture of this zone and epoch of construction.

Monsaraz is probably the eldest village south of River Tejo (Tagus) and there is evidence of pre-historic monuments nearby (megaliths). Main must sees are the castle, the bullring which is situated inside the castle, the beautiful church, the romantic narrow flowered streets and the breathtaking views to the surrounding plains and lakes.

Take your time

by JoseMonteiro

In Monsaraz you'll have to walk those old stones on the ground. Old houses, some monumental, there is always something new to see. But you must take some time to meet people and talk to them (in portuguese, of course) and they'll tell you all about this town. Taste the snails made in this region of Alentejo.

Old Chapel outside castle walls

by johnsakura

This old chapel is situated in front of the big entry gate of the village of Monsaraz. Nowadays its only used to have special efects going on over there. They put smoke and flames that seems that something is burning really strongly inside. Everyone just goes: "...call the firemen!!..." hehehe
The chapel is the almost black spot on the left side of the photograph.
