Because of the many places to sleep and plentiful restaurants, many people make Leiria their base of exploration for this culturally rich region of Portugal. Along with the religious sites at Alcobaça, Batalha and Fatima, you can also visit the charming town of Tomar and the laid back beach at Sao Pedro de Muel, all easily accessible by bus or car.
For doing sightseeing and to get to nice places at the ocean my friends organized a place in Leria from where it is near to Alcobaca, Batalha and Marinha Grande (the access to the ocean)
Leria it self is also a pretty nice place with a ruin on top of a hill and the colorful soccer stadion, which was used in the Euro-Championship in 2004.
