Lace-making

Lace-making is an old tradition in Peniche. There is a monument to it. If you are interested to learn more, then you can visit the lace-making center in the building next to the tourist office on Rua Alexandre Herculano.

Nossa Senhora dos Remedios Sanctuary

On our walk around the peninsula we found this chapel which is a famous sanctuary for pilgrims. The little church is very beautiful with blue and white tiles inside as well as some alcoves for praying. Please be very careful when taking pictures as not to disturb anyone praying. For that reason, I didn’t photograph everything. So no flash and beeping cameras, please.

The church is thought to be dated back to the 12th century but its exact date is unknown. The ceramic panels are from the 18th century. In the main chapel pilgrims worship the Holy Mary.

Cabo Carvoeiro

From Cabo Carvoeiro you can see the Berlenga islands on a clear day. There are boats from the port of Peniche if you want to visit the island. The cape features a light house which is restricted area and a spectacular rocky outcrop in the sea.

There is a large car park by the cape and there are very clean underground public toilets by the car park.

Please note that there are sometimes bus loads of tourists arriving.

There are only three ways of getting here:
You either walk like we did or you have a rental/own car/taxi or you are on a tour bus.

Baleal Surf Camp is located on the best learning spot in the Peniche region and is the leading surf camp in Portugal. Beginners and advanced surfers are sure to spend a fantastic surfing holiday at Europe’s most consistent Surf Zone and can choose from the many surfspots in the area.

"Surf classes"

As a beginner, we teach you the basics of surf as a sport. You’re supposed to be able to swim. Even if you’ve never seen the sea before, we guarantee that we will make you stand on a board and be able to surf a wave. That is our commitment and our mission.

You will learn how to handle the board in the water, where you should position yourself at sea, how to lie on the board, how to paddle to catch your waves, and how to stand. You will also learn techniques to clear the break-point and surge to the crest of the wave.

"Accommodation"

The “Cool” accommodation deal is our most economical option. This kind of lodging is hostel style, with shared rooms, where you share the house with the other guests. It’s ideal for getting to know people from the world over, in a youthful and relaxed ambiance. The Surf House Hostel and the Village House Hostel are our two “Cool” deal houses. They’re both located just 200m from the beach, and from various Baleal surf spots.

The “Superior” accommodation deal is our most comfortable option. It’s ideal for couples, families, and groups of friends that appreciate comfort and privacy. In these apartments you get a room all to yourself and only share the house. The options available are the Green House Apartment, the Cocktail House Apartment and the Wooden House Apartment.
