Lisbon to Brighton (UK) by Car

"Lisbon to Brighton (UK) by Car"

This trip started in Lisbon on the 29th July where I stayed at Estalagem do Farol in Cascais, for a well deserved rest.

The trip by car back to Brighton (UK) started on the 7th August and ended in Brighton on the 10th August.

I shared the driving with my partner on a right handside car, which means I drove on the right/wrong side of the road most of the time...

I will upload some photos asap.

Touch the Sea...

This Hotel is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed.

It's small, has a pool and a view to die for, right in the heart of Cascais, near Boca do Inferno.

It's just a stroll down to the recently built marina with all its shops and restaurants and 10 min walk to the centre of town.

Right next door you have a club - Coconuts - with its great outdoor dance floor. Be prepared to wait at the door and to fight for a space at the weekends.

Expensive but secluded and the staff couldn't be more approachable and nice. Prices start at 130 euros in October to 235 Euros per night in August. Very well known names in portuguese fashion have designed some of the rooms, which take their names at the door. All rooms are very good sized and all tubs have hydro massage - delicious at the end of the day.

You can use the pool for 15 euros pp per day.

Lisbon airport to Cascais

by hellyc

Hi-I am going to Cascais for just a few days next month, flying in to Lisbon.
As time is short was hoping there was a direct airport bus but some forums say this is not running? Would it be best to pre book a transfer or get a taxi at the airport and about how much should I expect to pay?
many thanks.

As of May 2009, the direct bus wasn't running. Instead, I took the airport bus to Cais do Sodré and from there a commuter train. The trip itself, including changing of vehicles, took me less than an hour and it cost me around 5 euros total (I can't remember exactly).

If you have heavy luggage or many suitcases, then a taxi might be a good option but I can't comment on how much you should pay.

Yes, the direct airport bus ceased operation over a year ago.

You can take the bus number 91 to Cais do Sodre station in Lisbon for €3,50 then a train to Cascais from there for €1,75. Overall, the journey should take no more than about 60 - 70 minutes. Buses and trains both operate every 20 minutes every day. Bus 91 is a special service with extra luggage space. I have taken a very large bag onto it without problem. If you have no heavy bags, there is also an ordinary city bus number 44 at the airport that also goes to Cais do Sodre but not at weekends.

A taxi or transfer from the airport to Cascais would be at least 30 Euros.

We just did this last May when we went to Portugal. At Lisbon Airport we took the Aerobus, which has a pick-up area right in front of the terminal. it cost 3,50 Euros per person and there was an area for your luggage. Get off at the last stop which is Cais do Sodre' Train Station . The ticket to Cascais was 1,70 Euros and the trip took about 30 minutes.
When it was time to go home, we had a very early flight, so we needed a taxi at 5:00 a.m. to take us from out hotel in Cascais to the airport. It cost us 50 Euros. The driver said it was expensive as he had to pay highway tolls. The trip took 45 minutes (there was no traffic that early in the morning).
Here is a link to my Cascais Transportation tip. Hope this helps.

A safe beach for women going alone. Small but cosy with nice public toilets, some small rstaurants if you want to eat there with grilled fresh fish. Right outside the train from Lisboa. Beach in the Winter...

Sun and Fun

Cascais is a little town that once was the vacation spot for the rich and famous of Portugal and Europe.

It has a charm about it that is not matched anywhere else in the Portugal. The people are the best and are always willing to help you.

Even in the dead of winter when the tourists are all home there is life here and you get to know the locals real well. They make you feel like family. For us the best place in "The square". This is the area behind the English style restraunts where durring the summer months you will find young and old having a good time with live music, dancing and party party party.

Make sure you stop in to have a pint or two.

Cascais Beach

by TinKan

In the summer months the beach in Cascais is the best place to be but be careful as the sun will burn you if you are like me... RED, WHITE, RED, WHITE....

There is a long walk way that goes along the beach from Cascais to Estoril where you can relax and enjoy the view of the sea and just sit and let the world go by. During the winter months you will still find many locals walking and biking along the wall. It is just a lovley place to spend a sunday afternoon in the winter.
