Cascais Utopia

Just back from a fantastic week in this super friendly & competitively priced hotel. The hotel has some wonderful features, an incredible breakfast area, a lovely garden & it's in a cool part of town. Free internet access & water and all for €60 for a double room.

Unique Quality: In hotel church & an epic breakfast area

Great Place.........

We stayed for one night and we enjoyed it very much. It is a very clean and affordable place to stay. It was 60 euros that included breakfast. The rooms were very big and the also had televisions in them. It is i n a great location right near the beach and city center.

Charming and very old

Solar dom Carlos is the old (16th century I think) summer house of the king Dom Carlos of Portugal. It is now a hotel. We had a big room beyond the chapel, with bathroom and TV. No aircondition. We also had some ants in the room. I was also a bit afraid of ghosts, as it was such an old house :-)
It is a very charming place, the location and the service is good, but the standard of the rooms etc. is not that high. It is adviceable to book in advance.

Unique Quality: It has its own peaceful garden.

More about Solar Dom Carlos

CASCAIS - Land of Kings and Fishermen

by NelsonM

"Don't just stick to the "Tourist Traps"."

The picture shown here, my favorite of Cascais, is at the Praia de Santa Marta. As a young boy I learned to swim here. This is where the "gang" went in the summer. No tourists ever came here even though it is a public beach. It is in the shadow of the
Conde de Castro de Guimaraes Museum and next to the Marechal Carmona Park. It is within seven minutes walk of downtown Cascais and even today you selsom see people come out this far.

"A rare mixture."

As a young, poor boy I grew up in what seemed like a fantasy town.
Great beaches, a great pine forest and a great park. What more could a kid ask for?
A popular, albeit small, hotel is the Solar Dom Carlos. During the monarchy it was the summer home of King Dom Carlos.
Our very modest home was just 200 paces from this site.
