CASCAIS - Land of Kings and Fishermen
"Don't just stick to the "Tourist Traps"."
The picture shown here, my favorite of Cascais, is at the Praia de Santa Marta. As a young boy I learned to swim here. This is where the "gang" went in the summer. No tourists ever came here even though it is a public beach. It is in the shadow of the
Conde de Castro de Guimaraes Museum and next to the Marechal Carmona Park. It is within seven minutes walk of downtown Cascais and even today you selsom see people come out this far.
"A rare mixture."
As a young, poor boy I grew up in what seemed like a fantasy town.
Great beaches, a great pine forest and a great park. What more could a kid ask for?
A popular, albeit small, hotel is the Solar Dom Carlos. During the monarchy it was the summer home of King Dom Carlos.
Our very modest home was just 200 paces from this site.
