lisboa sete rios or lisboa oriente?

by mavl

planning to reach lisbon by bus and these two stations came up as choices for final destination. could someone please tell me which of these stations are nearer to the center of lisbon?

thank you very much in advance.

Sete Rios is a little closer but is still nearly three miles/5km from the centre. Both bus stations are on the Lisbon metro, so best consult the metro map to find which is best for your final destination.

Sete Rios is adjacent to the Jardim Zoologico metro station, Oriente is next to the Oriente metro station.

www.metrolisboa.pt for a metro map.

obrigado muito cubsur.

would you know until what time the metro operates at night? bus arrival will be about 21:30.

hi, miko,

to second cubsur, yes Sete Rios is slightly closer to Lisboa proper (the old Lisbon that is) but the actual difference in terms of transport-time and convenience is so neglible even if you were to get off at Estacao de Oriente (part of the 1998 World Expo site) and pick up the Metro to the old city from here.

either way and whichever drop off station one would be, the connecting trip (Metro/bus/tram) into the old city is so straighforward and quick.

good to know you're heading that way...Lisbon is awesome, you'll have great fun.

email if you need more info.

To pick up on one earlier point:

The metro runs frequent service until after midnight, every day.

After the Universal Expo'98, Losbon is a beutiful city. Don't miss the gates entering the city (one of those is similiar to the San Francisco's gate'. The contrast between old things and modern thing. And, of couse, i miss the low price of everything!!

Jeronimos Monastary

by Martin_S.

UNESCO has classified it a World Heritage monument and you can soon see why, or maybe Antonio can explain it to you as he did for us.
Aside from the historical importance, this is a beautiful building and worth a visit just for the architecture. There is a link below if you would like to read more of the history. I am more into the physical beauty of the buildings rather than the history, but evan a total history idiot (yes like me ;o)) knows about Vaso de Gama who is buried here in his crypt. http://www.golisbon.com/sight-seeing/jeronimos.html

... Inside you will find a spacious church with mystic quality of light. There are also stonetombs of Vasco da Gama and Luís de Camões.

Peaceful and cool place just to sit a while. These kind of places makes me so peacefull and silent.

Queijo fresco (fresh cheese)

by marielexoteria

Another yummy thing I tasted in Portugal: queijo fresco or fresh cheese. This is cheese made of cow or goat milk in a way that it must be consumed right away or the day after (if made the traditional way). Nowadays you can find some that have a slightly longer expiration date.

Consistensy wise, this cheese resembles cottage cheese but more solid. The usual way of eating this cheese is slicing it and adding salt and pepper.

Tourada (Bullfight)

by Mundus

Bullfight is a very controvertial subject. I personally enjoy to see it.

Bullfighting was once the sport of Portuguese noblemen. Unlike in neighboring Spain, the bull is not killed--a prohibition the marqu?s de Pombal instituted in the 18th century, after the son of the duke of Arcos was killed in the sport. Bullfights here differ in other respects from the Spanish version. Much ceremony and pageantry attend the drama: The major actors are elegantly costumed cavaleiros, who charge the bull on horseback, and ma?os de for?ado, who grapple with the bull. Many find this face-to-face combat the most exciting component of the bullfight.

There are many aficionados in Portugal and Lisbon presents them a great venue to see a good Tourada - the Praca de Touros do Campo Pequeno. It was inaugurated in 1892 with a neo-Arabic style. It fits about 8.438 spectators.

The bullfighting season in Lisbon runs from Easter until mid-July.
