Nice decor in the reception area, with a hint of Imperialism. Looks quite grand around the concierge, though not particularly so from the outside.
Good service.
Rooms are very basic, nothing fancy at all! However, it's very comfortable.
Breakfast was OK, 'nothing to write home about' !!
Unique Quality: Great location, right next to Rossio Metro, more or less facing the Dom Pedro IV equestrian statue which is in the middle of Praca da Figueira.
Can see the Castelo Sao Jorge up on the right.
Directions: In the front left corner of Praca da Figueira, facing the Dom Pedro IV statue, and beside Rossio Metro station.
The front desk is very friendly, ready to speak in English to you once you reveal your American passport. Even if you try to speak to them in Portuguese, they will respond back in English which I did not like too much. Reservations can be made online at virtualportugal.pt. The room was comfortable with a smaller sized shower, but what do you expect, it's Europe! My view was one looking down a street busy with restaurants and things which lead all the way down to Praça do Comércio. Just a couple of steps away from the Rossio Metro station and a praça away from the Restauradores Metro station, which is a different line if you feel you do not want to go to Baixa-Chiado to switch lines.
Unique Quality: Right in the middle of the Rossio district, this hotel is placed right between Praça do Dom Pedro IV and Praça da Figueira on Rua da Betesga. One great thing about this place is that you can see so much from these two praças that it seems like you really do not need to get any public transportation because you are already so close to everything. With O Castelo de São Jorge overhead due east over Praça da Figueira and Estação Rossio west of Praça do Dom Pedro IV, it really is too good to be true. You are in walking distance to five main praças in the city and smack in the middle of the shopping district, too. If you feel more on the budget side and not willing to pay the €0,70 to take the metro everywhere, O Sé is on the way to Castelo de São Jorge if you go directly from Praça do Comércio.
Directions: Between Praça do Dom Pedro IV and Praça da Figueira
Basic hotel in the middle of the centre (Rossio)
Impossible to find anything more central. Staff not too friendly, but still polite. Rooms are basic, without any fringes, but clean. From my room I had a nice view over Praça da Figuera, especially beautiful at night.
Small breakfast buffet, but don’t drink the orange juice, it’s disgusting!
All in all, this is a good hotel if you are looking for a central, not too expensive location.
If you’re more into luxury, it’s better to go somewhere else.
