by dr.firas about VIP Hotel Lisbon
I was about to go to Hotel Ibis as my sweet friend from Lisbon *VT member micas_pt* has recomended, but in the way to that hotel I saw the VIP one, and said to myself, ok I'll try this one, to compare the prices, well obviously the VIP was a great experience for me, great price for a very good quality, big bedroom, a bathroom inside the room, and TV set, air condition and really comfortable conditions with a nice breakfast, and also not far at all from the centre of Lisbon, I kept very positive impression of that hotel, it is a recomendation for every traveller once you are in Lisbon! 3 Stars
What a hotel !!!!

Stayed in Lisbon Marriott last week. What a PLACE !!! After the visit, I found the Oct 18 post about this hotel to be totally inaccurate and misleading....
Lisbon is pretty nice city with mostly very friendly people. The hotel is located in a very decent area and access to the subway is very easy (the Zoo station). The hotel was as good, if not better, than many Marriotts I have stayed at in the US / Europe.
The other nice thing is that it is not that far from the airport and Colombo shopping center (reminded me of the Galleria in Houston).
As a final touch, the staff hotel was fantastic at check in, they upgraded me to a suite for 23 Euros !!! That gave me free internet and free access to the lounge (which gave me complimentary breakfast, drinks, and snacks all day).
I am going to be back for sure.
good hotel, but a little far from historical center

I stayed at the Marriott Lisboa for 5 nights.
ROOM: Our room was clean and looked like just about every other Marriott at which I've stayed. The bathroom was spacious and had a lot of counter space. Our room also had a balcony that looked out onto the street and parking lot. We had a new Revive bed. You'll like it if you like soft beds. I personally thought it was TOO soft and couldn't feel the bed itself.
STAFF: Courteous, friendly, and helpful. The only exception to this was the concierge desk. One concierge was courteous and friendly but not helpful. Another was none of the above.
INTERNET: There is no in-room internet access, wireless or not, which I found surprising since this is billed as a business hotel. You can pay for wireless access in the lobby or at the business center.
TRANSPORTATION: The nearest metro stop is a 10-minute walk, but there is a bus stop right across the street from the hotel. The buses that stop there will take you to the metro stop in just 3 minutes. Also near the metro stop is the Rodoviaria bus station (the bus that takes you to Evora) and a train station (the one you use to go to Sintra).
SAFETY: I never felt like I was in an unsafe area, though it is a quiet area at night. If you're taking the metro home late, you might want to take a bus or taxi from the metro stop back to the hotel.
NEARBY EATERIES: There are no real restaurants nearby for dinner. For breakfast, skip the 16 euro one at the hotel. There are several bakeries on the way to the metro stop.
Great Price - Comfortable Beds!

We just returned from a fantastic trip to Lisbon and stayed here for 3 nights. We received a very affordable rate on the Marriott web site. The bed was very, very comfortable and the room was quiet and clean though a bit dated. We always had clean towels and daily bed turn down. The location is fine. Near the airport and an easy walk to the metro and train station. The walk is fine - the area is very safe and the train station is a good jumping off point for day trips. We took a quick train to see the castles of Sintra (doable in 3/4 of a day) The only downside of the hotel was the concierge. Following in the postings of others the concierges were not very helpful and the restaurants they sent us were not good. Soliciting their advice is frustrating and should just be avoided. The New York Times had several helpful articles on Lisbon we used - Cafe Vertigo in Chiado should not be missed.

Marriott to Gay Are
by NewMike
Hi, will be staying in Marriott Lisbon and would like to go party in the gay neighboor hood. Will a taxi be ok? Should I ride the bus? I will be there for 3 days , is there a multi day pass?

Using public transport (bus/tram/Metro) will be fine, I think. I would.

will give you info about services/ fares etc.
Alternatively, you could get the Lisboa Card, which offers free/discounted entrances as well as free public transport.

If you go by night to Bairro Alto and Principe Real areas, where most of the gay clubs are, taxi is the best option.
I see in Lisbon's map that the Marriott is surrounded by metro stations, but they're not close (Laranjeiras, Jardim Zoologico, Cidade Universitária). During the day, you can walk to the metro if you like to walk. The metro closes at 01:00am
