First thing from Lisbon: airport-welcome!
Hi,
I'm flying into Lisbon in March and won't arrive until about 21.30 so I'm catching a bus down to my destination, Alentejo, early the next day, so I want to stay close to the bus station.
Does anyone know of any hostels/cheap hotels close to Sete Rios Bus Station?!

There are a few places along the Avenue José Malhoa including an IBIS hotel within about 10 minutes walk.

Ok great thanks. Is there anything cheaper though. I'm talking like 20EUROS per person or something - I'm quite happy to share a dorm room, or a double room for about 40euros as I'll be with my boyfriend.
Also, we're both travelling with surfboards - does anyone know whether boards are allowed on the metro / taxis / local buses / coaches??? If so do they charge extra??

about the boards in Metro and local buses, it wont be a problem, and i dont think you need extra ticket.

you can find cheap hostels in downtown lisbon ( around rossio and baixa )
you can take the subway ( blue line ) and be at sete rios in 10 minutes.
Probably the people of Lisbon don't like to hear it so well, but when you are in Portugal you definetly have to try this famous sweet wine from Porto (which is the second city of Portugal, a traditional rival of Lisbon).
Usually the older the better.
In Lissabon there are a few places from where you can enjoy nice views over the roofs of the town. One is the top of one of the elevator (Elvadores) wich connects the higher part of the town with the lower part (sorry don't know the name anymore) the other is from the castle wich you can see in the background.
The Vasco da Gama bridge is a Cable-stayed bridge and it was inaugurated on the 4th of April 1998. Vasco da Gama is the largest bridge in Europe with a length of 17.2 km (10 miles), 10 km of which are over the river Tagus and it is located right next to the Parque das Nações.

Fado is, par excellence, the song of Lisboa. Born of unique sentiment, of a soul that can't be explained but only felt, fado today is the most noble and genuine product of Portuguese popular culture. And because it is so singular, it is always a surprise for the tourists who visit Lisboa.
Fado is fado and there are no ways to divide it. It's music that comes from inside the Portuguese soul. Even so, there are those who try to see divisions between professional fado and amateur fado.
The former is sung by people who make their voice their way of life, people of talent and hard work, who give their best, elevating the prestige of Portuguese song in the outside world.
The second, amateur fado, or fado vadio as it is known, has other characteristics, though the saudosista nature is the same. In the vadio fado houses, which now breathe again in the Alfama and other popular bairros like the Bairro Alto, the fadista is never invited … he invites himself.
Here there is no established program. You eat a grilled chouriço, drink a few glasses of wine, turn out the lights and the magic of these spaces comes to life. Whoever wants to can sing, giving wing to their sentiments.
The spirit of a fado vadio house is necessarily different from the atmosphere of a professional fado house: here, there is ritual and ceremony, over there is a party of desire and sensation.
Lisbon is not a great example of nautical sports (the river has too much traffic and sometimes suffers the agitation of the sea) but it is possible to practice a few water sports, in the Estoril's coast and in the city. In Belem, the Nautical Club has some activity and seems to have good structures
